Hello moms! My 22 month daughter has eczema. I breastfeed her, so not sure why she has it. When she turned one is when it became more of a nuisance. Like many moms I have tried many things to give my baby relief, as well as myself! She usually wakes at least once every night! I would really like to find the source of it to get rid of it. Doctors have been unhelpful, they just offer medicine to knock her out and steroid cream. I even tried to make peace with it and when I see her suffer-she has scars NOW -my search now continues. So please any help would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

If you have an opportunity to see a naturopath, you might get some better advice. I think that usually it is caused from some sort of allergy or sensitivity to something. I have had other friends with the same problem with dr's not knowing what to do. Have you tried DHA? You can get in a gel cap form that can be chewed and tastes like strawberries. I get it at the local health food store and my daughter actually likes to take it. It has worked for dry skin problems and is just a great thing for kids to take in general. Good luck

Here is a product that has really helped my friend's daughter with her eczema. http://www.arbonne.com/products/baby/wash.asp
There products are hypoallergenic, PH correct, dermatologist tested, have no mineral oil, no animal products, no animal by-products and are botanically based. (A nice side note: my friend says there's never a ring in the tub after their bath!)
If you would like more information or learn how you can get it at a discount, please ask.

Hope this helps, R.

My son has had eczema since he was born he is now 21 months and I use the aveeno body wash and the aveeno baby lotion, I had to cut back on baths only twice a week too much water makes him worse, I lotion him down anywhere from two to three times a day but I have to say the aveeno works really good and you can get it at walmart. I know when he starts trying to scratch that he hasn't had enough lotion for the day.

My son has ketosis pilaris and I use this awesome lotion "Renew" from a toxic free product store that I am a member of. The price is reasonable and the stuff works!!! it doesn't even leave a greasy film on your skin. I use it on my hands to keep them moist and love it! Per the back of the lotion " Clinical studies show that Renew provides faster, better and longer lasting relief from severly dry skin than the leading dermatologist- recommended lotion."

I know plenty of people who use this specifcally for eczema and it has worked for them.

If you want more info on how to become a member to order this to try let me know- if it doesn't work then send it back for a full refund.

one thing that have helped our daughter was homemade oatmeal baths (process regular rolled oats in a food processor until finely textured, add about 1/4 cup to bath) but the biggest help was a visit to a pediatric allergist who found out she had an egg allergy which he said she'll probably outgrow.

Hi,
Both of my kids have eczema and while I have used steriod cream and stuff even stronger when the outbreaks are bad, I use Aveeno on them daily as well as Nature's Cure ezema lotion (found at Target, has Winnie the Pooh on the package) for my son. Its very thick but has great coverage. I also LOVE the Grins & Giggles Moisture stick. Its so convienient and its great for his cheeks and ears while I'm out and about and notice he's starting to flare up a little bit. I have those moisture sticks all all over the house, in my car, my purse, and in every diaper bag!!
You might also keep track of what she eats before the breakouts. I noticed in my daughter if she ate too much dairy, she would have a breakout. She eventually outgrew it though...
Hope this helps, but hang in there - it will get easier :D

Hello,

I have two children and both of them have eczema. My son had it when he was 3 month old and he grew out of it when he turn 3. As for my daughter, she is now 30 months and she has it really bad. Her eczema is all over her body and a few spots on her face.

I had my daughter see a dermatologist and had her tested for allergies. She was test for all the common food allergies and household allergies. It turns out she has a big allergic reaction to dust mits and eggs. (I had to ask my doctor refer me to one) So, I turn my house inside out and had the curtains washed, window blinds washed, vaccumed, dusted every coner and under furniture, and my area rugs removed from the rooms. (I have hardwood floors) I know this sounds extrem, but I had to know for my self if it was my house causing her to this problem. As it turn out, it help a little with her itching.

My daughter dermatologist also told me to give her a lukewarm bath everyday, pat her dry (do not rub) and then moisturizer her with Vaseline. It's a little greasy, but it works. I was using Aguaphor, but my doctor told me that it has Ceresin and Alcohol which can cause to dry out her skin instead of moisturizing. I also have a prescription body oil (used twice a day) to help her with the ruff area of her body, especially the top of ther hands. It's call Derma-Smooth/FS (do not apply on the face). This product seems to work really well for her. As for my daughter face, I just use Vaseline. And thru out the day I just keep moisturize with Vaseline.

My daughter eczema is still a work in progress and hope she grows out of it soon. I hope this helps!

P.S. If your doctor/s are not telling you what you need to know, insist upon having your child see a skin and allergy specialist. I did!

P.S.S. I forgot to tell you! I also had to change her bath products. For her bodywash I used Aveno Oatmeal bodywash or Dove sensative skin soap. Also, wash the clothes in hot or warm water and use laundry detergent the is Hypoallergenic, fragrance free and dye free. (ALL makes a product call Clear Or Cheer)
