So What Happened?

You mamas are awesome! Thanks so much for all the tips! This is what I did: I rubbed baby oil on my son's scalp and left it for 30 min. Then I used the baby comb (the thin part) and the flakes were coming off so easily! After that I gave him a bath and massaged his scalp with baby shampoo. I repeated this cycle every 3 days and guess what, his scalp is looking 100% better! The dead skin is not completely gone (yet) but it will be pretty soon. Thanks everyone for the wonderful tips! :)

I smoothed on olive oil with a cotton ball and then gently brushed the scales with a baby brush. Sometimes a few times a day. My daughter's head smelled delicious! I wouldnt use shampoo.

Hi A..

I highly recommend the Arbonne baby care line for your son's cradle cap (shampoo and oil). This stuff is amazing! All natural, pediatrician recommended, etc. I'll check to see if I have a sample.

I used to sell it (still have an account), but I still use it for my daughter, and always will. Works wonders on excema, diaper rash, any skin irritation. (I know it might sound like it, but I promise, I am NOT trying to sell you anything!)

Good luck!
:) A.

hi, my first daughter had this really bad, too and now my new baby has it a little. what i did with my first daughter seemed to be genius so i will share. when i bathed her, i would lather up her head with the shampoo and then take the tiny toothed comb that is for infants, you know the one you get that has two sides of teeth.. use the smallest one and gently comb thru the shampoo toward the front, sort of sliding it left to right and you comb... it loosens all that nasty skin that is ready to come off without hurting at all. make sure you just slide it easy though, you dont want to "scrape" at it and pull off the parts that arent ready to go. when i thought to do this, i couldnt believe the stuff that was stuck in the comb... ewww. but after a while of this, it seemed to clear it all out and her pretty little head was finally in there somewhere. this is what worked for us, im no doctor so check with yours if you arent sure, but her head was never red or anything and she was never bothered by this in the least. if you do it gently, i think little by little you will see it start to clear away. i eventually was combing in every direction and the flakes just started to slide right off. even combing thru baby oil should do some good, if you dont want to wait til bath time. good luck, T.

All you have to do is take your baby shampoo and coat it on your son's head. Rub it really good into the scalp and comb to get some of the pieces loose. DO NOT RINSE. Just let it air dry and put him to bed. Rinse in the morning. Repeat as needed. After a couple times of doing this its usually gone. My Pediatrician told me this rememdy and WOW what a $ saver!

Hi my daughter had horrible cradle cap! I tried a bunch of different stuff. I tried all the products from the store and they helped a little, but they weren't really worth the cost. The best thing was saturating her head with baby oil. I massaged it into her scalp and then I would put a hat on her and leave it for a while. Then I would take a fine tooth plastic baby comb and gently comb through her hair in all directions, removing the flakes. She would get really relaxed and fall asleep! Then I'd wash it out.

Also, you don't need to shampoo his hair alot. Her ped told us we only had to wash her hair about once a week at this age. Washing it alot will dry out his scalp. I just wiped her head with a washcloth during her bath and then shampooed once a week. And she had a ton of hair!

We put lotion on our daughter's head. She didn't have much hair, so that made it easier. But if you can, try that.

I did the oil on the hair about 20 minutes before bath. Then use a brush to pick the scales off. I was told by my doctor that it is ok to use Neutragena (sp?) Tar shampoo. Leave it on for a minute or two and rinse. Be very very careful not to get it in his eyes. It took a few times to get rid of it all.

It's been a long time since I dealt with this, but I used baby oil and then also a very very soft brush that I would brush in a circular motion to loosen the dry skin. Then you can comb the dead skin out with a baby comb. It takes a few days. This too shall pass!

We put vegetable oil on my son's head and left it on for about 30 minutes before a bath. Right before the bath, use a comb and gently comb the dry stuff. It won't all come out, don't force it. It will take a few times. Shampoo as normal once in the bath. My pediatrician recommended vegetable oil instead of baby oil cause if he eats it somehow, its edible :)
