The best thing that is available to you without prescription would be the Saline Nasal Drops. You normally will administer two drops in each nostril and run a humidifier during the evening. Another idea is to use Vick's Vapor rub on the bottom of your baby's feet. It tends to help aleviate breathing discomfort and will cease dry coughing for a substantial amount of time - don't forget to put socks on after you apply the Vick's to the bottoms of the feet. The name of the brand of Saline Drops is called Baby Ayr. I hope that this information will be helpful, and most of all I hope that your precious baby feels better soon! Good Luck :)

Poor baby! I know it is difficult now that it is not safe to use decongestants etc. for our little ones, but on the up side there are a few things that you can do to help provide some relief. I would buy some Little Noses saline drops and use them several times per day to help clear her nasal passages. You can aspirate after you put the drops in if you want, but you don't have to. I would also use Vick's Vapo Cream for baby's to help her at night. The other thing that I love to use is the Vick's Plug In's! They are wonderful. I like them better than the cool mist humidifier. Good luck and I hope your angel is on the road to recovery!

Aww...I know how it goes to want your baby to feel better! When my son has a cold, I use the vapor plugs ins. They have 2 different brands. There is the Vicks Gentle Vapors, and another one that I am not sure of the name....we just use the refills. It is this neat thing that you plug into the wall (it even has a nightlight), and you put these little cartridges into that have vapor stuff in them and they release into the air. I don't think that the rub stuff can even be put on infants, so this is a great alternative to helping them clear thier noses!

I always try to stay away from actuals meds if I can. I try and use remedies first! So along with the nasal spray and suction I use those little plug in things. They make it easier for him to deal with the cold!

Good luck, and I hope you little one is well soon!

Saline spray and a humidifier are going to be your best bets. I took my son to the Dr's yesterday for something similar and I was told that the reason they don't recommend meds for babies so young is because the medicine doesn't even work on them and it can also be dangerous. Not very comforting I know.

Growing up, we never took anything for colds. My dad was a Dr and used to say, "you can take nothing and your cold will last 7 days or you can take something and your cold will last a week." It's a virus and there's nothing that will get rid of it. You can drink extra liquids to thin secretions, and do other things to make you feel better (ie Vicks or humidifier) but nothing will get rid of it other than time and rest.

It's so frustrating to see your baby suffer, but I found that my son would get better in a few days. Also, I was still nursing at that age and found that his colds were gone quicker as a result I think.

Good luck!

Use Vicks for babies and a vaporizor.

Use a cool mist humidifier and apply some baby vicks on her chest while she is in her crib. Also using some saline spray and then sucking the boogies out gives them alot of relief especially when they wake up and before you feed her.
Give lots of liquid and go light with the milk products until she can breath better if you can.
My chart says that you can use Pediacare decongestant drops for 4-11 months giving 0.8, 4 times a day. I have used it on both of my boys when they were this age. It helped alot. Most complain that it does nothing to speed the process up but I think that anything that helps them through it is worth while. :)
I would use it during the day at first to see how she reacts to it. Sometimes it can make them kind of hyper and sometimes it helps them sleep because they feel better. I also always dose alittle shy of the recommended dosage as well at first.
Also I use a vapor bath when I bathe them when they are sick. You can find it next to the different baby bath products.
Hope this helps and she gets well soon!

I agree with the post about saline spray and a vaporizer. You can get Little Noses Saline Spray at Walmart. It's non medicated, safe for use in newborns and infants, and really helps in breaking up the congestion. There's really not a lot you can do but help make her comfortable. Your baby's cold just has to run it's course.

Too many times now a days, doctors are prescribing children antibiotics for cold. Since the common cold is a viral infection, antibiotics do nothing for it. All this does is increase the possibility of your child being resistant to that antibiotic when they are sick with something else and the dr prescribes that antibiotic again.

Mullein. It's an herb that is an excellant decongestant. I use it myself and I've given it to my kids since they were infants. you can get it anywhere they sale natural health products. It will give her a runny nose immediately after taking it but it's healthier to get it cleaned out.
