I had the same problem with the Avent bottles. With my second son I switched to the playtex drop ins and they workded wonderfully. He had no problem switching from breast to bottle. They really are great bottles and less expensive!
I have an 8-week old little girl, who I wanted to introduce a bottle to so that I can occasionally run errands or spend time with my 19 month old son. She was taking the Avent bottles for a while, but she stopped all of a sudden. I've been trying the Gerber NUK bottles and she takes it about 1 in 5 times and no matter how much I put in there, she always leaves 1 oz. Any ideas on how I can get her to take the bottle? Which nipples most simulate breastfeeding? Please help. I never introduced the bottle to my son and I wasn't able to leave for more than 2 hours to run errands!

I had a lactation consultant who recommended the natural flow Dr. Brown's bottles. I don't remember exactly if thats the right term for those but not there are ones that have a slimmer nipple and then there are wide neck ones, she recommended the ones with the slimmer nipple.
I used the Second Nature bottles while I was breastfeeding and they worked great. The nipples are shaped a little different, but I could go back and forth between breastfeeding and it was no problem. I now use the Avent bottles and I like them better, but I am not breastfeeding now.
With my son we used the playtex ventaire bottles natural shape. My son was able to go back and forth easily between breast and bottle without a problem. I went back to work at 6 weeks and continued to breastfeed until he was over 10 months old. With my daughter we only offered an occasional bottle, but used the same bottles and she took them fine as needed.
i've had three kids and only 1 went on a bottle at age 6mo when i had to have surgery. i was worried she wouldn't switch but she did overnight.. i used the playtex ventaire bottles.. i recommended them to my neighbor who has a new baby and he took them right away too.. so give those a try. they are great for little - no bubbles and they come in different sizes for different ages.
Hello D.:
Sometimes babies get use to the shape of the mothers nipple. And the bottle nipple is to big or hard. Have you tried the playtex drop ins? Are you using your brestmilk or formula? this might be part of the problem too! Also remember your babies stomach is small the size of her hand, and if she is not drinking all of the milk, she could be full.
Good luck with your princess and prince.

Hi D. - my son also did that when I started introducing the bottle. He took the bottle for a little bit then all of a sudden he wouldn't take that kind anymore. I switched to the playtex ones that you put the disposable baggie in, and it was great - another tip is....you need to have someone else give her the bottle until she gets accustomed to it. Maybe your husband could do one feeding every evening when he gets home from work? Or if someone is over visiting, let them feed her, everyone loves to feed a baby!
D.,
There is a bottle called Adiri that is most like breastfeeding. It is shaped like a breast! I am not sure if you can get it in regular stores, but I know that they sell it at: Mom4life.com
Hope this helps your little one- I know its hard.
