Help! After we put our two year old daughter to bed, she strips down and pees in her bed. Up until last night onesies have worked but now she unsnaps them to get her diaper off. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all your ideas. We are "sort of" potty training at this point, but the pj's on backwards worked like a charm!

You could try a diaper cover type thing such as regular underware over the diaper. It keeps the tabs from being able to be pulled. My 11 month old son likes to be naked too. He also likes the new big boy underware...like his 7 yr old brother. He is so proud to be like everyone else it seems to keep the diaper on. My 2 yr old daughter is in pull ups (although more expensive) wich helps her. And I've been trying to potty train both my youngest. If the diapers are such an issue for them they need to use the potty. I don't expect that either of them really use it yet, but sometimes they both actually do it. :)!

When my first daughter was about 1 she would pull off her diaper at nap time and bed time, she would sometimes pee and poop in her crib. it was so bad we came to the point that me and my hubby would duck tape the front of her diaper so she couldnt get it open we would meet the tape in the back.
i might seem mean to some--but we didnt do it tight and we were desperate it was so bad--she would do it ---the second we walked away from her crib. it worked---but if we ever slacked off on doing it she would ripe her diaper off.
she was ready to be potty trained very early at 25 months.
maybe your little girl is ready too.
good luck

My nephew did the strip and soil routine frequently. My brother and sis-in-law resorted to the duck tape method and that worked. Some people make it sound luck duct taping is horible, but it's a heck of a lot better than having them sleep in their urine and feces! And, the duct tape goes on the diaper, not on the kid. If my son had ever done that, I would've invested in plenty of tape!
Good luck!

When my daughter was about 18mths she liked to strip down to nothing. While having my daughter be naked having sleep in soiled bed did. I wound up having to duct tape her diaper (just wound tape around the upper part of the diaper - not on the skin)and when she figured that out I then would sew around the top of the zipper of her footie pajamas so she couldn't unzip them. Hope this helps.

My cousin had a similar problem with her little girl of about the same age so she now wears her diaper, a onesie, her pj's and then another onesie (on the outside of the pj's). She looks a little silly (but very cute!) and it does seem to deter her - too much work for her to take everything off. Good luck!

Hi J.,
Seems like you have your hands full!! Not much time left before life gets even busier for you, good luck. I am stealing a suggestion off of another mom's advice from mamasource on a similar situation. The suggestion given to her was to put feetie pjs on the child but cut the feet off and put them on backwards so they can't get them off themselves. Maybe this will help, let us know how it goes.
Take care,
V.

Well, my question is, has she shown any signs of wanting to go to the bathroom in the potty? My daughter started showing interest around then, and girls are supposely early developers when it comes to that. I wouldn't let her go to the bathroom by herself, but what I did do was put a little pot in her room over a garbage bag, to limit the messes caused by misses. Maybe she thinks she's ready and is trying to get your attention. Otherwise, I think the backawards clothes suggestion will work just fine. Good luck.

Have you tried the one piece PJ's. I know you said the onesies, but just curious if you tried the full piece zippered or buttoned Pj's. I would also recommend if she can get out of those putting them on her backwards so that the zipper is in the back....now what 2 year old has the coordination to zip down her back!!!!! My last suggestion would be ducktaping her diapers :O) My mom had a friend that did that to prevent the "poop" incidents you hear about babies doing. Just wrap her diapers in duck tape so she can't get them off...I think after a while of that she will probably give up the habit. Or use the age to your advantage....get her a potty chair and leave it in her room and tell her she can strip down if she wants but if she has to pee to use her potty. I hope something I suggested helps.

Put her in zip up jammies, but put them on backwards...she won't be able to get the jammies off to get to her diaper.

One of my twins (2.5) did the same thing and I was pregnnat and working as a kindergarten teacher as well! I feel for you!!!! It does get better. I used the feetie pj's and put them on backwards. You have to manipulate the feet and twist them a bit, but it works!!! I also used a pull up at night. She was like McGyver and got out this fall but only when she was about to potty train! I found many suggestions on the internet, including duct taping her diaper, which I did not feel comfortable doing. This did work and it was better than changing the sheets at 3 am.
Good luck and congrats on the newbie that is coming!

One thing that worked to keep my kids clothed at bed time was a snug fitting t-shirt over a fleece sleeper. It all depends how talented she is about escaping from her clothing :) Good luck!

From prior experience with a friends child i found that cutting the feet off of footy pj's and putting them on backwards so the zipper is in the back. They will not be able to reach the zipper so they can not take there clothes off or there diaper. Hopefully this helps.
