I have not had one since I was a kid but my left eye started hurting the other day and now it hurts each time I blink...any idea how many times a darn day we blink??? Argh...I can't sleep. I keep going and looking in my eye, it feels like I have a lump on the inside of my upper lid, but I see nothing...I used to get chalazions (sp???) and I am sure this is the beginning of one...I know hot compresses, but what can I take to help alleviate the pain? It hurts so bad, I am a grown woman and I am near tears because I am tired and all I want is to go to sleep.

What can I do next?

Well, warm compresses can certainly help. Tomorrow, go to the pharmacy and ask for something to treat your eye with over the counter.
I got an eye infection and I could have fainted when the pharmacist told me to use neosporin. I thought he was crazy.
I couldn't get in to my doctor for days. Didn't want to do the ER thing.
I finally broke down and put some neosporin on a Q-tip, closed my eye and just rubbed the neosporin in the inside corner of my eye and kind of dragged it along my lash line with my eye closed. Within a day, the swelling was gone and before that, within minutes, I felt relief. My infection and pain cleared up.
Of course you should check with your doctor, but I know what worked for me.
My daughter who is an adult and doesn't live with me tried it for a stye. She was skeptical but got desperate and it cleared it right up for her too.
My doctor confirmed that the way I applied it was perfectly okay.
Like I said, don't lay a bead of it in your actual eyeball. And, if it's more of a stye, they have stuff for that too. I thought I had a stye and the pharmacist looked at me and said that wasn't it.
I suffered two more days because I was afraid of neosporin in my eye.
Hand to God....it fixed me right up.
Try asking a pharmacist. They may have an eye rinse that will comfort you.
It's worth asking about.

Best wishes.

Any OTC pain reliever should help but not totally relieve the pain. Sounds like you have constant irritation that will not go away with a pain pill. I'd go to urgent care. If this is a chalazion can it be treated? Otherwise maybe you've scratched the eye. There are drops for the eye that will help with pain. If you've scratched your eye you may want to use antibiotic drops to prevent infection.

This could be a lot of things. It sounds like what it was like for me when I had a scratched cornea. I couldn't read or watch TV because it hurt every time I blinked. I just wanted to lie down with my eyes closed. You need to be seen by an ophthalmologist to determine the cause and the treatment. It may be what you had before, but it may be something different.

For now you can flush the eye with lukewarm tap water or commercially prepared eyewash solution, rest your eyes, go to the pharmacy and ask for pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, also avoid bright light

BUT PLEASE GO TO THE OPHTALMOLOGIST,you cant tell by yourself if its chalazion it can be any an inflammation hard to tell from what you described .i need to see before i can tell.Anyways if its chalazion than you can treat it by placing warm compresses, such as a washcloth that has been warmed with hot water, on the eye or eyes for 15 to 20 minutes, four times a day.also go buy antibiotic ointment . If the chalazion does not go away in three to four weeks, your ophthalmologist open it up to drain the infection i hope it never comes to that ..get well soonnn

First, please don't put tap water in the eyes. It's not free of all infection causing microbes. If you have to rinse, use saline or artificial tears (no visine, clear eyes or other redness drops).

Second, go to your optometrist. They can see if you have a stye or foreign body or an ulcer or other infection. If it is a stye, (a chalazion is what it's called once it hardens up and the infection isn't acute anymore), you're right about the warm compresses and lid massage to break it up. But, I would get it checked to make sure nothing else is going on. You can use an OTC pain reliever in the meantime.

Hope you feel better soon!!

Hello, if you've had eye pain for sometime you need to see a dr. My brother had to have a bump lanced off. He was in a little pain afterwards, but over all helped him. I wouldn't mess with the eye, see a doctor.
