Help Removing Photos

Dear Mamas,

I'm hoping that someone out there can help me with this situation...

Those old darn photo albums that we had long ago where you peel back the film and stick the photo on a sticky page were great back in the day. HOWEVER, now that the book is worn out and I'm afraid of the photos getting damaged by the sticky pages I want to remove the photos. I've removed most without any problems, BUT I have some that are stuck on pretty good.

Does anyone know of a way to get the photos off the page without tearing the photos?

Thank you for your time and help.

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your GREAT advice. Actually I had taken the flim off and just had the pages laying around and it kinda dried the paste up on the pages so I was pretty much able to gently pull them off. I did have to use some dental floss, which worked pretty good. I for some reason didn't even think about scanning them! I would have totally done that if some of them didn't want to budge off the page.
Again, I knew you would all have some great ideas! You're all so great!

personally I would take the photo album to walmart and scan the ones that are stuck on their kodak machine... Then put THOSE in the new album...

Or at least scan the ones that are stuck before trying to take them out just incase they do rip...

if you have those small square alchol pads, the ones the doctors use,if you can peel back a little of the picture and start rubbing the pad, it will pull up.the nurses do that after my treatment to remove that horrible hospital tape!!! i have tried it on picture too,you can use rubbing alcohal and like a q-tip,just make sure you don't make it to wet....hope this helps you... I've heard that running waxed dental floss under the picture helps. I have not personally tried it though. Like the other mom said...scan them first that way you will have a copy if what ever you try doesn't work.

Peel back the clear sheet and gently use a hair dryer on barely warm (don't go overboard and melt anything- just gently warm up the page). Then take the dental floss that was recommended previously and slide behind the photo with a sawing motion.

Has worked on the old scrapbooks my father in law has of his ancesters- done dozens of albums this way.

I'm a Creative Memories Consultant (scrapbooking). If you try using dental floss-place behind a corner of the photo and gently work down the photo- you should be able to separate it from the album that it has adhered to. Good Luck!

Hi Tyra,

Go to your local scrapbooking store. There is some stuff called, UN-DU. It's an adhesive remover. You can bring you book into the store and see if someone can help you... The girls in these stores are usually very nice. One that I would recommend is Scrapbook Emporium at 21 MIle and Hayes Road. Not sure where you or how far this is from you, but the girls that work here are top notch!!

Good Luck,

if the photos are stuck to the page, you could cut the picture out still on the page and if i remember right, those pages are doubled and when you cut it, then you could cut the other half of the page off and slide your photo in another album.
hope this works for you.

Go to a scrapbook store and talk to them. I know I have used something before. It was a sticky/glue remover and it even had a little scraper to help slide the photgraph up. I can not remember the name of it. However, I am sure a photo store or a scrapbook store would be able to suggest the perfect thing.

Un-Do works great. I think you can get it at CVS, but if not all the scrapbook stores have it.

Careful, if you're wearing nail polish.

Hi, I'm a Creative Memories consultant so I looked back in my notes for info from our Director of Technology. In the article, he said to use our Multipurpose Tool to slide under the edge of the photos and work it along the sides. Or try dental floss under a corner and work it down under the photo in a sawing motion. If neither of these works, try a hairdryer set at low heat. Hold it about 5 inches above the photo. Keep the hairdryer moving so you don't over heat the photo. After 20 seconds, test the photo. Try again if needed until photo has come off page.

If all else fails, scan the photo to make a new one.
I hope this helps.

Tyra,

I have slightly steamed them off. It loses the glue and the picture slides right off. I usually lay them on the counter in the bathroom with a book on the picture to keep it flat and turn the shower on. I have also used a teapot but holding the paper above the steam is hard to not get burnt. Good luck.
