Help .... Need New Pediatrician

Monday night my son suddenly spiked a fever (100.8) and would not eat his dinner. I took him to urgent care and it turned out he had an ear infection. They told me to see his pediatrician the following day. He started his anti-biotic that night. When he woke Tuesday morning his fever had risen to 104.3. Now typically I do not take him to his pediatrician until after the medicine is done to see whether or not the ear infection has gone away. But since his fever had risen so high, I wanted him to be seen immediately. They told me that they had no available appointments until Wednesday and that the doctor wouldn't do anything anyways because he had not been on the anti-biotic for 24 hours yet. Needless to say I was furious that they would not see my son. This is the second time that they have told me that are no appointments available. So I figured I would see if anyone on here could refer a great pediatrician in Oxford or Lake Orion. I am looking for an office that isn't going to tell me that they can't see my son for whatever the reason may be. Please help me.

What can I do next?

Hi Barbara
I live in Oxford but I take my kids to a pediatrician in Rochester. Northeast Pediatrics on Rochester rd. I have always been able to get a same day appt when my kids are sick, usually first thing in the morning! Kind of a drive but worth it for me.

I don't know one, but I wanted to say that is horrible. A fever like that warrants a visit! Make room! Make sure you let the doctor know because it could be a front desk thing.

Good luck and I hope you find one.

hey B.,

i know exactly how you felt. few things are more frightening that a fever that high.

it might be a hike for you but i LOVE my ped. they are professional, organized and have never failed to attend to my son, even if it was simply over the phone advice. they always leave urgent appointments available on their schedule as well.

pediatric health care in sterling heights. they are at 18 1/2 and mound. (i drive in from royal oak and use big beaver, it takes maybe 20 minutes.) my son's primary is Dr. S. McManus. however, i have worked with the other docs as well and am impressed with them all. ###-###-####.

we have been with them for almost 8 years. highly recommended. good luck and i hope he feels better.

Hi B.,

I agree with you, it's unacceptable that you couldn't get you son in. I don't blame you for wanting to switch. For almost 7 years now I've taken my kids to Dr. Richard Cohen in the POH Lake Orion office. He's a DO, general practitioner, but is really good with the kids. All three of my boys are special needs. Dr. Cohen is paient, gentle, kind and thourough. We've seen his partner Dr. Gary Holloway a few times and I like him, too. Dr. Cohen's wife is an ob/gyn and is also out of the same office. Very convenient. Any time I've had an issue and needed to get my kids in immediately I can normally get an appointment the same day or at the latest the next day (unless it's a Saturday, they aren't open Sunday). Wait time to see the doctor isn't bad either. There was one time I couldn't get myself in as soon as I needed to but I left a message and got a return call the same day. Dr. Cohen wrote me out a perscription for what I needed and I went in and saw him the following week. Worked out well.

I hope this helps - S.

My pediatrician offers walk-in hours every weekday morning from 8:00-9:30 and again on Saturdays from a couple hours. They're probably way too far for you to drive (13 1/2 and Telegraph in Bingham Farms - Beverly Hills Pediatrics) but you might want to look for a pediatrician that offers a similar option. It's VERY convenient for sudden fevers and things like that...

He is AMAZING!!! I call and they either get me in that day or tell me what to do and if that doesn't work to call back and come in! When our 2 1/2 yr old was about 6 or 7 months she got a feveror something and i called at 6:00pm on a Saturday night and he met us at the office (just us) and opened it up for us and saw her! He is AMAZING!!!!!

Not sure where you live, but I think it's worth the drive to see him and his staff are wonderful too!!

If you don't mind driving 15 min, I would highly recommend Dr. Sundar (or any of the others) at Premiere Pediatrics at I75 and M-15 (exit 91). I have 2 kids and I have always been able to get in to see a doctor. ALWAYS!!!!! And at the spur of the moment too. I can't imagine a doctor not seeing your son with a fever that high!!!! Good Luck!

NE Pediatrics in Rochester Hills is the best - really. You can always get in to see the doc on the same day you call if your guy is sick.

Last week, my guy had a horrible fall and we drove over to the office and they saw him right then. I was impressed.
