Help, Need a Minivan

I just found out that number 3 is on the way so I now need a minivan to haul everyone. Moms, please if you have any good or bad reviews on minivans let me know. I am trying to stay on the cheaper side with rising gas prices, but I only know about the Dodge Caravan. Plus if you know good places to purchase it. I am willing to go anywhere west of 360 to the outer loop 820 near Benbrook / Hulan area.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the responses. I have gone to the websites of the Major Car Brands and requested brochures for the minivans. I think we have settled on the Dodge Grand Caravan.

I LOVE my Sienna! I would recommend Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna, new or used. They are low maintenance and have incredible resale value.... you never see them broken on the side of the road!!

Toyota Sienna, there's a decent range of options and we like it a lot, we especially like that the 3rd row folds flat in the back and when the seats are up you have a "well" that keeps the stroller etc from rolling around. We also checked out the Hyundai version and liked that a lot, they had more standard options/features than the Toyota but we were also thinking of resale value and figured the Toyota would end up being better for that. We thought the Honda and Nissan were sorta overpriced and Dodge wasn't very friendly on their financing when we were looking. You can order brochures on all of them from their respective websites.

I have a KIA Sedona and LOVE it! We too bought used. It is a 2003 and we bought it in 2005. The KIAs are priced right in there with Town and Country, Dodge Caravan, etc. One huge difference though is KIA has a 100,000 mile, 10 year warranty! No other company that I know offers that! So even if you buy used you still have factory warranty on the vehicle.

As for where to buy. If you do decide to go the used route, I wouldn't buy anywhere other than CarMax. We have purchased 2 vehicles there and I won't go anywhere else. For one, they don't haggle. The cars are priced what they actually charge. There are no hidden things they try and convince you you must have at the end of the deal. Once you have picked your car you go in an office with the rep and he enters everything right there in front of you. After a few minutes, several different financing offers pop up. From different lenders. And you pick the offer that works the best for you. We have had such great experiences with them! And I am a researcher...I always research something exhaustively before I buy and CarMax prices are right on value.

I love our town and country. You should buy used as with any car. You loose 10,000 just driving off the lot. It has a dvd player doors that open with the push of a button, thats the best part. The only thing I don't like is the cup holders for the captians chairs are almost on the floor and you have no way to adjust them. Its not an issue for us because our kids are still in carseats that have cup holders. But we love it my Pawpaw just bought a hyundai van and he is not happy with that at all. We have the town and country lx it is very comfortable we always get compliments on it. Buying a minivan is a big step people make fun of you. You either hate them or love them. Good luck!

I love my town and country. We purchaed a used 2005 - I've had it for about 3 months and absolutely love it. The 2008 is supposed to be even better. It's affordable and compares right up there with the Sienna and Odyssey on safety.

We just purchased a 2005 Ford Freestyle, which is a suv/wagon crossover. Looks somewhat like an Explorer but a little lower. I know it's not a Toyota or Honda, which would be my preference, but it's much less expensive and still decently reviewed, both by critics and consumers. It seats 7, and the seats fold flat for tons of storage. I can even fit two full size car seats and one infant seat in the middle row (it's a tight fit). I'm averaging about 21-22 mpg which for a car of that size is pretty good. I drive a lot, both around town and on the freeway, so I'd say it's a pretty good estimate for the DFW metroplex. We bought it at Carmax in Irving, but you can go online at carmax.com and look at all their stock within about 500 miles and have one transferred to the Arlington store. We were pretty happy with our experience with Carmax, and we LOVE our car. Edmunds.com is also a great place to research cars and get consumers' opinions. I researched alot of suvs before purchasing and I'm happy with my choice. Good luck and Congrats on the new baby!

K., go on to www.yellowbook.com. Longhorn Dodge has a $250 off any advertised price that expires the end of this month. I would print it out now. Longhorn was recently bought out by Meador, but they are still accepting offers that Longhorn had available to the public. You will be able to see other car dealer ads there too. I would call around, other dealers may be willing to take the coupon offer too.

Good Luck!
