My first 3 periods after my C-section were VERY heavy. I called my doctor & they said that was completely normal!
I had my son about 7 weeks ago via c-section and have recently been experiencing my first period postpartum. So far it's lasted 10 days! Pre-baby mine were short and light... also... i've been taking bc pills. I'm worried bc this is so unusual for me, especially since I'm on the pill. Has anyone else experienced this or known of someone who has?
Thanks to everyone for the advice. I think it's finally ceased but i've made an appt to see my midwife in a week and think i'll switch prescriptions. Hopefully it resolves itself :)

I don't remember exactly how many weeks I bled after my c-section, but I do know it was more than 10. Despite the fact that you had a c-section, your water still got broken and you still gave birth so expect it go on just as if you had gone vaginal. It takes a while for your hormones to go back in shape. My periods used to be exactly every 28 days, as soon as I would wake up and last 5 days. Since my c-section, sometimes I'm a day or two early, sometimes a day or two late, sometimes they last 3 days, sometimes 5 and sometimes 7, sometimes they're really super light and other times they're severely heavy, but as time has gone on (my c-section was a year old in October), they are becoming more regular...as my hormones slowly straighten themselves out.
i didn't have really heavy bleeding like most women due right after my daughters birth. i was like you, i went on birth control and the 1st couple of periods i had were awful...i bled like a stuck pig for almost 2 weeks for the 1st 2 or 3 periods. well i eneded up stoppping the birth control and my periods are getting back to "normal". they still last a little longer than i wish they would, but they are not as heavy as b4. maybe you should call you ob/gyn, maybe they need to adjust your Rx.
Sometime a woman bleeds very unusually. I have a period 3 times a month. If you are taking birth control as you are told, then the birth control is too weak. You should go back to your doctor and let him/her know.
I don't know if it's different with a c-section but I blead for 6-8 weeks after all of my kids, then after that it took about 3 months with birth control to get them back to normal. Give it time, if you feel deep down that something isn't right CALL YOUR OB! You are the only one that knows your body and if something is wrong. I hope this helps
When I had my daughter (3 months ago) my bleeding lasted for 7 weeks after she was first born. After I started on the pill things kinda went back to normal but after I had finally stopped bleeding within two weeks I was having my normal period. And like my doctor told me expecially after you start back on birthcontrol your body has to get back used to it so you may have the weird or infrequent periods. However, I'd mention it to your doctor if it keeps up and see what they say.
I had a similar problem after my c-section and being on the pill (for the 1st time). Only I was on and off for about 3-6 days at a time. It was really screwy. I finally had a month break and was on for about a week (normal 4 me). Then 2 weeks later I was on again! I finally gave up. I've stopped taking it. So far (stopped on the 24th, last month) I haven't 'spotted' like when I was on the pill. My guess is ur on the low dose pill (I was). If u want to continue on the pill, talk 2 ur doctor about switching to a different kind. I didn't want to be on the pill, so I just stopped taking it. I had my daughter 7 months ago. Good luck!
K. when I had my c-section I bled into 7-8 weeks ,sometimes it just takes your body alittle long to get well .I really think its ok but to be very safe I would check in with my doctor .Hope you feel much better soon .
My period changed drastically after my daughter was born (also via C-section). She is now 13 months old, and the new period seems to be here to stay. My flow is a lot heavier and longer, and I have terrible cramps (I never had them before). When I asked my doctor about this, she said it was common for periods to change after giving birth, and I could try to switch pills if I wanted. I haven't done that and just learned to live with it. If it's bad enough, see if your doctor will switch your pills.
My period right after c-section was pretty bad too. It continued to be bad while on bc pills for another couple of months. I quit taking bc pills and my period got better... it even went away completely! Now, I was nursing, but I have quit nursing for about a month and still--no period! So, I would suggest going off the bc pills for awhile and see if that helps. Otherwise, see about getting on a different pill.
Also, if you are breastfeeding, bc pills can hinder your milk supply.
My advice is be careful. I had the same issues after my first child. My periods were very irregular even though I was on birth control. Turns out that the prescription was the wrong one and I got pregnant again. I found out I was pregnant when my first boy was just 6 months old.
I would talk to your Dr. about the issue and get a different prescription for your pills.
Just a word of advice.
