I'm in the same perdicament except, my sons only 18 months. all the advice I've gotten was that there's not much you can do about it.
Does anyone have any advice for me? My 5 year old daughter grinds her teeth in her sleep. Its really loud and I'm afraid shes going to hurt her teeth.

copied and pasted from my recent response to another post about teeth grinding- this is more age appropriate :P
I have always ground my teeth. My parents said they heard it but never did anything about it- and when as an adult I finally had a dentist that said- "you need a guard to wear at night- you have teeth of a 60 yr old person (I was 28.)
There is not much you can do now with his baby teeth coming in- but once his adult teeth come in - get close with a dentist and have them make guards (when they say they can -probably when all of his teeth come in) and make sure he wears them at night. My parents went to the effort of making sure I had braces- but I never had a guard to protect them.
It is not something you can stop. He is unaware he is doing it... I am also unaware.
Hi Mellissa, I used to grind my teeth when I was younger, so bad that they were flat. It is very common for children to grind. Ask her dentist what he thinks, the only thing I can think of would be a night guard.
Take her to the dentist and see what they want to do. They might suggest a night mouth guard to wear when she is sleeping, and that will help protect her teeth.
i agree take her to the dentest know so she dosent grind her teeth to small becuase yes if she grinds them they can get smaller and smaller they will give her a gaurd to wear when she is asleep
The dentist can make a fitted mouth guard to wear at night. The are very cheap and you can hardly feel them.
