Hello
My daughter is been potty trained for over a year and no problems whatsoever with accidents or so.
Yesterday, she made up a thing that if she pees, it will hurt a lot and she refuses to go pee since that time.
We tried everything we could think of, warm bath, rewards, different toilets, dolls, pretended doctor calls, you name it.. nothing worked.
She screams, suffers and still holds it as I havent seen before and scared to death to go pee.

Please help, any suggestions how to release this pressure and to "make" her urinate...
I cant see her suffer this much and cant help her.

----------------

We tried the bath too.. and runnign water..
Yes, she keeps saying that she's afraid to pee because it might hurt and it did not hurt an hour ago when she peed yesterday before this story came alive.
There is no UTI.. we saw a doctor couple days ago for some other things and she did all the test and confirmed negative..
--
tried with the hospital thing too.. that scared the he... out of her and she still could not go because of that fear she created.
----

well, she said that she made it up (I would never guess it and not take things seriously) but she cannot let the idea go away). Yes,
____
CHICK M,
yes, the doc did both, checked the urine at their office and sent out to the lab

After 18 hours of struggle with her fear, she finally gave up and peed! ignoring the subject worked best. what a relief, as i was ready to go to the hospital

Load her up on fluids.
Water, milk, and juice (you can dilute it).
Also explain to her that everybody pees - you, Dad, the pets, brothers and sisters - everybody.
It's necessary to stay healthy and she's been peeing since the day she was born so why should now be different.

I cant imagine anyone being able to really hold it for long after drinking a lot of fluids. Or after eating when it stimulates a bowel movement. Maybe she has an irritation or bladder infection starting and had some pain last time and is scared. How would you know if she "made it up". She will have to go eventually, or a trip to the Dr for a catheter, which will just make her more upset. I say give her all the juice and milk she can drink and she will eventually go without being able to stop it. If not, call your Dr.
ADDED: you say you "tried the hospital thing" What do you mean? Did you just threaten to take her, and it scared her but not enough to make her go, or did you TAKE HER? Why joke around with her, just take her in a have them figure it out.

Are you sure she is making it up that it could hurt? Maybe the last time she went it did hurt. If that is possible she could have a UTI (bladder infection). If the holding continues you probably should go see the Dr. I get UTI's several times a year and they are no fun and DO hurt when you pee.

It sounds like she's getting a LOT of attention with this. How do you know she didn't go in the bathtub yesterday? I'd put her in the bath again today and leave her alone for awhile. Then, ignore this. She can't hold it forever and the less attention she gets for it, the less motivation for doing it.

Did the doctors do a Urinalysis and send it to the lab to be cultured? Or did they just do a urinalysis in the office? I ask because my daughter had been complaining that her pee-pee hurts for over a month. I'm a nurse so I checked her urine and did a UA on it and it came back totally clear. I figured she probably had some vaginal irritation so thats why it was hurting. She kept complaining and started having a lot of accidents, so I finally took her into the doctors. They also checked her urine, and it came back clear, but her doctor wanted to play it safe and sent her urine into the lab to be cultured. A few days later I got a call that her urine grew bacteria in the lab and that she had a UTI. She was treated with antibiotics and all of her symptoms resolved. If your daughter continues to hold in her urine, I would take her back into the doctors office. Good Luck!

I'm glad she finally went. Maybe she could make up a story for me so I don't have to stop at every place I see to go when I'm out or all day at home. :-)

Has she peed yet? It prob has stung in the past and that's where this is coming from. Now that she's held it this long it's for sure going to hurt when she finally goes. Let her know that. Tell her it's prob going to sting but to be brave and do it. If she is brave and goes she can get something special for being so brave (like go out for icecream).

Try just putting her in the bathtub....she may just release it. Do you think maybe she could have a UTI? My daughter was the same way and doctors said she may have UTI but we found out after antibiotics she was still the same way. She ended up being allergic to the soap I was using and had to switch.
