My 22 month old daughter has had hives on the lower half of her body, off and on for the last four days. I called the Dr. and she asked about any change in diet or house hold products and we can not think of anything. She advised me to give her Benadryl. The hives have not seemed to bother my daughter at all. Then in the middle of the night last night she woke us with projectile vomit all over...she has not had a fever and has not vomited again, she is playing like normal and seems fine? I am wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this or has any suggestions...thanks so much for your time

What can I do next?

That is exactly how my baby reacted, she is allergic to melons/water melon. Last bout [when she was 2] lasted 7 days, fever, vomiting and hives.

Did you introduce her to something new? fruit, vegetable, nut?? Think, or was she exposed to too much sun??

Good luck!

Are they all the same size? Is there any bruising associated with any of the hives? My son contracted Henoch-Schonlein purpura at 2. our pediatrician told me that his insides from the waist down looked just like his legs, feet, and lower abdomen. It affects the capillaries only from the waist down, but untreated can cause other severe problems. You might want to get her checked out just to rule out anything severe. When I described his symptoms over the phone they said it wasn't a big deal and to bring him in. When I got there they made us wait in our car until the Doctor could see him, when he did see him it was in his private office not an exam room.

He's fine (now almost 15) and didn't have any complications, but you want to know for sure.

Hello, H.,

Has she received any vaccines recently? She may be trying to detox from them. They are ways you can support her if that is the case. I can help you with that.

I agree ...you need to go to the doctors right away. She's also about the age that kids get certain vaccines....has she had shots recently? If so, and you know which one/s....
go to www.909shot.com and look up the vaccine and look for what the side affects are to that/those vaccines. It's a process of elimination if your daughter is vaccinated.

Good luck and Godspeed!!!

Hi H.,
I have had this situation happen to me with both of my daughter's. The first time it happened I was very concerned and took Brittany to the doctor right away. Turns out she was sick and the hives were just a symptom of her illness. It continued to happen until she was about 5 whenever she was getting sick. The same thing with my younger daughter. Whenever they have hives I know they are coming down with something that will require a prescription. I know it's scary but it doesn't always mean that they are allergic to something. From what you described it may just be a symptom from her vomiting and she may have other things going on that she is unable to tell you about.
Good luck and make an appt for the doctor.

If the benadryl is not working and she is vomiting, I would just take her in to her ped. I am surprised that they did not want to see her. She is having a reaction to something. Better safe than sorry.

Hope she feels better, the poor baby!

My daughter (30 months now) developed an allergy to strawberries and had symptoms exactly as you describe. She suddenly became allergic to them about 6 months ago and broke out in hives, vomited, but played and acted normal. Don't discount things that have been around. Try removing a couple of common allergens for a few days and see if the hives go away..."Although an individual could be allergic to any food, such as fruits, vegetables, and meats, there are eight foods that account for 90% of all food-allergic reactions. These are: milk, egg, peanut, tree nut (walnut, cashew, etc.), fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat." Write down everything your daughter eats and if you notice the hives getting worse/more appearing/fading to try to rule out the culprit. Out daughter vomited two mornings in a row within 2 hours of having strawberries. Hope you can figure it out because Drs rarely do without the vigilance of the parents.

Hi H.,

I just went to the doctor's with my cousin for similar symptoms, and the dr. diagnosed her with hand, foot and mouth. He said that it would work itself out in about 7 days, and that it's going around. Make sure she stays hydrated by giving her small doses of liquids , but don't give her any milk or apple juice. When she's ready to eat, give her small quantities.

take her to the ER. Don't wait. Maybe your pediatrican can get some allergy tests done, there is obviouslly something. Maybe she snuck something to eat? Do you have house plants? 90% of house plants are poisonus.
