Help My 2 Year Old Thinks Monsters Are in Her Room at Night

I have a 2 year old and she has always been a great sleeper. Now she is scared at night to go to sleep because she thinks that there are monsters in her room and she says that they are bitting her. We don't have a clue what to do. We don't want to let her sleep with us. We have been letting her stay in the living room until she falls asleep and then moving her to her room. I don't want to mess her up for life. I would love to hear what ideas anyone has to offer.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well we did the spray and I also got her a 5 dollar radio from walmart. It has worked. I also had surgey a week ago and my mother came over to stay the night and so when she left we told our daughter that MIMI took the monsters home with her so ALL THE MONSTERS WERE GONE. Thanks so much for all the advice.

Well, this just might work...My son went through the monster phase at 3. So, I gave him a bottle of "magic monster spray". I got an empty spray bottle at Wal-Mart and wrote Monster Spray and Repellant, Guaranteed to Work, Extra Strength, etc...and then gave it to him. It was weightless, so his first response was that it was empty. I reminded him that is why it is magic, because it is invisible and weightless. Every night we sprayed the whole room, and wola..no more monsters!

A. - I've heard several people say that they use the "no more monster spray" and use a bottle of water or nothing at all. Also, depending on your religion - I've also heard of parents teaching their kids to say a prayer when they are scared and God will keep them safe.

Good luck - phases like this are NOT fun.

I slept in a cot bed by my moms side of the bed 'til I was five. If I got scared, I got up and went to the cot bed. We did this same thing with my son. that way he felt secure and we didn't have a wiggle worm in our bed.

Also, now both my kids share a room and so they find comfort in that and stay in their bed.

Hi A.,
We have gone through this!
What I did was buy an empty spray bottle from the dollar store and we mixed up "Magic go away monster spray" (all pretend, the bottle stays empty) Then put stickers on the bottle and I wrote No Monsters on it. Then my kids could 'spray' their rooms every night before bed. The bottle stayed next to them so that they had the power to spray whenever they wanted.

I have also uesd "Go to Sleep" spray which was smal spray of lavender and chamomile body spray (again from the dollar store) that I put on their pillow.

Hope this helps!
