Hello moms!

We've recently moved to Euless, TX. We have a big mosquito problem. I spray off with DEET generously, but still get bitten. (Just this morning got 8 bites in less than an hour.) If you know of anything better, please let me know! ANY suggestions would be appreciated. We're hiding inside.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

What can I do next?

Sounds kinda funny but if you are going outside tie a fabric softner sheet to your clothes (even used ones work great)the mosquitos do not like the strong scent. We had a big problem with them to and I went and bought some citronella candles and they are awesome!! Hope this heps!!

I don't have any suggestions really - I haven't figured out anything that gets rid of mosquitos, so I've been keeping my daughter indoors. But I do have a warning.

My daughter is almost 2, and she loves to play outside. About a month ago, we sprayed our yard, and I thought it would be fine to let her play outside. She got eaten up with mosquitos, even though we had sprayed the yard. I put Campho Phenique on the bites, and didn't htink anything of it. About a week later, on a Thursday, my daughter started running a fever. The next day, she had a small swollen lymph node in her groin area, but I didn't really think anything of it - I just thought that it was swollen to fight off whatever was causing the fever. Over the weekend, it kept swelling and by Sunday it was huge. I took her to Children's Medical Center Monday morning, and they ended up keeping her for a week. She had to have surgery because the thing absessed (sp?) and it needed to be drained.

Just be really careful. She's still getting over this. The nurses and doctors I talked to said that they've had a lot of kids coming in with this, almost to the point of it being an epidemic. They're still trying to figure out what causes it, but they believe very strongly that it has something to do with the mosquito bites. It was awful, seeing my normally healthy active daughter, hooked up to an IV and having to go through surgery. Please, just be careful.

once it dries, i would suggest spraying your yard and shrubs with the mosquito stuff that you get a Lowe's or home Depot. You hook it to your hose and just spray. I still use off, but don't need it as often. With all this rain, it's tough because mosquitos are just drawn to it. We're hiding inside too. May hit incredible pizza tonite, just to get out of the house.

I started using the Avon skin-so-soft and it works so well. I hate using the DEET on my kids and in my opinion, the SSS works way better. Plus it make your skin soft. I use the bath oil because I got it on sale and put it in a spray bottle half oil and half water and just spray it on. My kids got eaten with the chiggers when we first got here and they very rarely get bit now, by anything. Just make sure you get the original scent.

Hello D.,

mosquitos don't like peppermint and rosemary.
Also taking Vitamin B6 will help. it takes a few weeks for the b6 to help.
