Help Me with My Leaky Night Time diaper.....(Moms W/ Infant Boys Please Reply)

Every night I put my 1yr old son into a huggies night time diaper (size 4). Each morning he wakes up soiled up to his arm pit in pee from his leaky diaper. For some reason I can not find a diaper that will not leak by the morning for my son.

I have used liners, pads, bladder control pads, bigger diapers and even the plastic covers from cloth diapers (which do work by keeping his clothes dry when the diaper does leak). What else is there?

What have other moms with young boys use that do NOT leak by morning? Any suggestions would be great.

What can I do next?

Try Huggies Pull Ups for Boys. My 7yo uses them at night for bedwetting and they hold a lot. The absorbancy is in the front for boys. Diapers have them in the middle for boys and girls.

My son leaks with Huggies too and so much that the stuffing has come out!!!! I don't use normal Huggies anymore, ever.
I use LUVS and have to change him right before I go to bed or I have used the Huggies overnights which work. The Huggies overnights are pretty expensive and not always easy to find at the stores.
I would be interested to see what other people suggest. Good luck.

Have you tried Luv's Brand diapers and one size bigger. I don't have boys but this brand worked for my daughter who was having the same issue.

Do your best to make sure his winkie is pointed down.
It's not always a matter of the diaper not holding enough pee and sometimes switching to a bigger one allows for more wiggle room, if you know what I mean. I found that using a diaper liner really helped.

Hello
I had the same problem until we started using Huggies Overnights. They work like a charm! We also use them on plane trips or long car rides just in case... Nothing else worked for us and we tried many other diapers before going the Overnight route. (During the day we use Seventh Generation, so it was a bit of a stretch, but worth it.)
Good luck!

I think that it might be the brand. I have 2 boys and I remember trying other brands that leaked and then when I used pampers cruisers, which are a little more expensive, they didn't leak. The only time I ever had one leak was when I knew I should have moved on to the bigger size, but I wanted to finish out the box that I had and it was too small so after that night I switch to the next size, and never had a leak after that so you might want to try the size of the diaper too. Maybe buy a small package of those to try. I love them and am now on my 3rd child and we still don't use anything else.

I had the same problem with my son. I change him right before he is going to fall asleep and I use the Kirkland diapers size 4 and I do not have a problem. If he wakes up at all in the middle of the night I change him again. Otherwise I change him right when he wakes up and his diaper is full but does not leak.

I have tried Pamper, Huggies and Luvs and I like the Kirkland diapers. They work for both my kids (twins)

Good Luck.

My son is v. leaky in sposies. He can get through the night in a disposable with a gdiaper pad in it, too, but it isn't very 'tidy' (I have to fold the pad to get it to fit). At home, he is in cloth; we're traveling at the moment. I use a tots bots diaper plus an extra cotton booster and motherease wrap. He sleeps a long time (around 13 hours).

we used to have the same problem...19 month old son
First what we did was cut back on the night milk intake to just 3 oz then changed the diaper. The the Costco (Kirkland) brand cheapie diaper.
Works like a charm- the majority of the time. If he drinks alot for dinner then we still have to completely change him in the morning but limiting the fluids and changins the brands has made all the difference in the world.

I've been double diapering my son at night since he was about 4 months old. We put on a size 5 diaper, then a size 6 over the top of that one. Does the trick!!!

I started having the same problem when my son got around the 18 month mark... So I thought going up a size was the answer. Oh ya, AND I was also a huggies user. They still leaked. So I switched to pampers and he's not woke up all wet since then. He's a happy 21 month old dry baby! Hope this helps.

I had that problem with Huggies too - plus my son was really skinny - no chubby thighs to help stretch out the diaper elastic. I gave up on Huggies and switched to Pampers Swaddlers and it made a huge difference. You can get Pampers through amazon.com for about the same as Huggies and you get free shipping if you subscribe to regular shipments - which is a wonderful help coming home to 2 big boxes of diapers on your porch - never run out again! ;)
Also, make sure the little fire hose is pointed down - you may want to stick it down with a little petroleum jelly.

I have the same problem, the diaper cannot hold all of the pee. I change him right before bed and try to put the front of the diaper higher up on his belly. If he wakes during the night, I change him if the diaper is too soiled. I've been using Huggies night time diapers and found this is the only night time diaper that has been most often successful for all three of my children.

Is the diaper filling up too? If so, that's just more pee than a diaper can handle. If not, make sure you point his pee-pee down into the middle of the diaper before you close it up.

Hi
We had the same problem. Eventually, we just changed him a great deal. Our son would go to bed before we did, so before we retreated to bed, we would go in and change him (even IF he wasn't awake or his diaper was not full.. He ALWAYS slept thru the changing.. then when he awakened in the night, we changed him again. By changing him right before we went to bed, this helped a lot as oppose to waiting for the need (for example, when we would get up to feed him in the wee hours) ..
hope this helps..

good luck

Around 10 months or so my son started having this problem too. We were using Pampers. At the time, Costco had an offer for a free sample of the Kirkland diapers. They worked like a charm! Their wipes are great too.

We have found that using a diaper which is a size bigger than his daytime diaper works. I have used Pampers cruisers and Seventh Generation, both in a size 4 versus a size 3, which my 14 month old son uses during the daytime. We had a similar problem with leaking a few months back and that was the solution which we found.

Hi,

I have had the same issues as well! I use a nighttime diaper from huggies and then put on a bumgenius diaper wrap cover over. Its the reusable diaper--but I take out the insert and just use it as a wrap. It doesn't completely solve the problem, but it helps tremendously. Also, limiting liquid before bed helps a lot too.

Good luck,

Molly

My son had this problem too. He is almost 2. We just changed his diaper right before we put him down (between 7 and 8). We give him an 8oz sippy cup of milk as part of his nighttime routine but limit his liquid intake for a few hours before bed. He usually wakes up dry but occasionally have a wet bed (usual wake time 6am). He usually only has a wet bed on the weekends when he wakes up on his own.
I don't know how helpful this is but I do know your frustration!

Take care!

I had the same problem with my nine month old, he is a big boy with a healthy appetite and sleeps 12 hours at night. By morning he was always soaked. I tried everything and finally settled on a size 4 huggie overnight with a diaper doubler and a Bumkins plastic diaper cover under jammies. I also stretched his bedtime a half hour to 45 minutes later to give him more time to diagest and cut his nightime bottle down from 8oz.to 5oz. And to save myself laundry I bought The Ultimate Crib Sheet from Walmart which is a waterproof sheet protector that fits over the crib sheet and removes easily with elastic bands around the crib posts. He's got a full diaper in the morning but at least his clothes and sheets are now dry. I think cutting liquids down really helped.

I use Seventh Generation training pants I think in 2T size, but you can check weight recommendations on the package. If you are open to cloth diapers, use 2 prefolds in a wool soaker and you'll have no issues.

we had that problem with our son years ago. I just started waking myself up in the middle of the night and checking his diaper. Although he was sleeping through the night, I would get up to change him while he slept and that was about the only thing that worked. For us, it didn't last too long, he then started to stay a little more dry through out the night. good luck!

hey there - so my son used to do that too and is a long 12hr sleeper. we used Pampers Swaddlers (making sure he was in the middle of the weight range), tucked his little johnson down and stopped feeding him liquids about an hour before bedtime - and it stopped all leaks (assuming we changed his diapers right before bedtime too so that the last bottles pee got changed). Good luck to you.

I use luvs for my son and they seem to work good. When he starts to leak I do a double check on the size and if that seems to be okay, I start cutting back on the amount of milk he gets right before bed. It's weird because he will go for weeks without full leaky diapers and then bam...every night. I have never like Huggies, they always leaked for me.

Oh, I've so been there many many nights for weeks and weeks and months after months! I finally figured out why it happens and was able to reduce the washing I had to do.

Here's what you need to do - get up every couple to few hours each night and change his diaper. I used overnight and a bigger sized training pants (double layer) and made sure he wore either onesie under his two-piece pjs or one-piece pj that have buttons or zipper that went all the way to his neck. If you feel comfortable, before you put on the diaper, spread baby powder on his diaper area so that his pee doesn't stick to his skin all night. The reason he pees everywhere and leaks is b/c his "pee pee" doesn't sit still! You'll notice that when you change his diaper sometimes, he'll have an erection. He has it all night, practically and it just moves on it own! Seriously, he has no control. Also, the reason the onesie and/or one-piece pj is that later on, if he doesn't do it now, he will touch and rub himself (my son used to and still...humps) and his "pee pee" gets an erection and goes every which way.

My son's 4 and he's in training pants but I still deal with his wet diaper, though not as bad but it sometimes leaks on his butt area or his side. Argh! Someday, really soon, it'll all be over.

Hi D.-
My sister has two twin boys. Since they were just a few weeks old, they have been doing that. Her solution, which has worked (they are almost 5 months old now) was to buy diapers for a much larger child so that there was so much more space, if you will, for them to pee in. I really think it worked. Try using a diaper made for an older boy/toddler.
Hope this helps
-E. Mc.

Oh- both my sisters use the costco kirkland brand diapers and say they work the best. They have tried ALL brands and love these the most.

My son was long and skinny and a very deep sleeper (still is). Luvs, one size up, worked most of the time. Around age 3 we switched to Goodnites (even though he was nowhere near the minimum weight). My daughter was also thin, and we put her in goodnites for sleeping at age 2. My son, age 6, still wears goodnites, still S/M size, and tends to leak when having a growth spurt or extra tired, or pointed the wrong way... but otherwise remains dry. My daughter leaks less, but I was impressed that the goodnites worked even though they seemed so large. She's 4 now.

Sometimes just using a larger size diaper will fix it but now that my son is in the largest size we bought the small inserts from gDiapers and I fold it in half and put it at the top of the diaper and we are completely leak free! Works great!

HI, I haven't had too much problem at night with my 2 boys. But it sounds like he is getting too much liquid before bed time. Maybe limit him to a drink at dinner and then nurse or bottle just before bed. If you are using a bottle, 4 ounces only. How long is he sleeping? I know some put their kids down early like 7 or 730 and they get up at 7, that may be too long for his bladder. Hope that helps.
