Kids' Lab Set
Telescope
Doctor kit: stethoscope, white lab coat,
Easel and art supplies
Bug kit (to catch & release. Fireflys for example.)
Hi All,
My 5 yo little guy is such a super creative kid. His imagination is out of this world! He has his army of imaginary robots, his secret lab downstairs, and so on. I am trying to think of things to get him for Christmas that feed his creativity.
I am hesitant to get him video games because I don't want him to become immersed in someone else's creativity. I want him to be immersed in his own, instead. I am not completely opposed to it, I would just want it to be more that Mario Kart.
So, what toys have you seen, bought, or received that you think would be great for a really creative child that allows him to use and channel that creativity?
Thanks for the responses, in advance
L.

What about lessons......are lessons, martial art classes, or maybe a music tutor? One thing about toys and games with a 5 year old is that they get used then stuck in the corner by next Christmas. I like to give classes and things that will last longer.....and add a skill to their many already acquired talents.
Hope that helps!
telescope and microscope!
Does he have Lincoln Logs?
What about K'Nex?
Drum set?
I am getting my 5 year old son that cookie press thing from tv lol. And for toys were are adding to his Legos and getting some new action figures, he comes up with such creative games with those!
I love the Imaginext toys and the new Heroes Playschool toys (same size as imaginext, but Star Wars and other characters). They are fantastic for imaginative play. They have a variety of themes. My son will spend hours using his Batcave (never with batman..it's Star Wars, Army Men or Ghostbusters :)) If he's an engineering type, a marble maze is fantastic. MY son has created some pretty cool things with his. If he's more artistic, a glow board or lite brite may be some ideas.
There is a discovery store. (i think they still exist) They have all kinds of neat things.
Most of my boys could entertain themselves for HOURS with Army soldiers, airplanes and jets, a plastic castle, knights...plastic dinosaurs...etc. You get the idea...anything they could ' set up' ...'defe d' ..
'Battle'...and 'conquer & defend'!!
My kids love the Imaginext toys. We have a dragon-pirate ship and a dragon fortress, and they don't really get tired of it.
They also love Lincoln Logs
We bought my son an easel when he was small and to this day (he is now 9) he still uses it.. best purchase/investment ever... he has used it more than anything else.... also, he loves maps... those are fun too...along with puzzle, which are also a big hit in our house-hold..
best of luck
Legos. Maybe an nart set with an easel?
Keva planks. Google them for their website. I was a little skeptical but my friends assured me their kids played with them for hours. We got some for our daughter two years ago, and they are fun for everyone!
My boys (7 and 6, just turned) love legos. They can create any kind of world they want. We made a folding board with 4 large flat lego squares so they can have a good building surface for them last year, they love it. They also love hotwheels, so this they are getting wall tracks. They also got a set of magnetic tubes that you put together in such a way that a marble will bounce between the different ones as it slides its way down.
make believe dress up clothing--from Value World resale shops so he can make his own
K'nex
Holtztiger wood figures
supplies to build something large together of his choosing--like a backyard fort or tree house
chem lab for youngsters
non-fiction books on his favorite topics, such as the DK Eyewitness series
a marble run
an old computer to take apart
a box :)
New fangled aerodynamic winter sled and some snow block molds to build some super mondo cool snow forts. Not amazingly creative, but if he designed the fort layout on paper first ...
I only say this because I think we're doing sleds this year too.
Good luck!
You are smart for not getting him video games. They just suck the creativity out of little kids. Does he like lincoln logs? Building stuff is great. Clay work it great too.
