Help for a Bad Cough

My 2 1/2 yr old had the same problem with a horrid sounding cough at night. We finally took him to his pediatrician and after extensive testing they decided he had a mild form of asthma and put him on daily breathing treatments along with a prescribed allergy medicine. We started this in feb/06 and he no longer has that cough. We also have to make sure any smokers that come around wash their hands thoroughly before playing with him and we have asked them not to smoke 30 mins before coming over so they have time to air out. All of these precautions take extra time but are worth it when your son sleeps peacefully at night...I hope everything turns out well for you.

make a doctor appointment and take him.........it could be somthing as simple as a cough and it could be worse........the doctor will know

have you tried putting a humidifier in his room? With the change in weather, it might help. But you might also want to check into if he is coughing more after he eats....my son had a little fight with acid reflux for a few weeks due to a food allergy and it made him cough so much because the back of his little throat was burning.

My daughter is 17 months old. Two weeks ago she started having a really bad cough that was worse at night. I took her to the doctor and she had croup. Her cough sounded like a bark and it was really deep. If that is the way his cough is, I would take him in. My daughter sees Donna Puckett, MD. she said that this time of year is really a time for children to get croup. Good Luck
