Hi Lisa,
I am not sure about Federal Jury. I'm sure you can look it up on the net... But I got out of local jury duty twice, which is the limit. If I was called now I would have no choice.
Good Luck!

HI I just got a summons for federal jury duty. I am a stay at home mom.. I actually am very excited about a couple of days of going to the courthouse downtown and talking to adults. I can probably arrange for babysitters for 2 or 3 days..
But I am concerned that I might get picked for a long trial and be stuck for weeks or months.. I dont know what I would do with my kids if I were on jury duty for a long time. Has anyone served on a federal jury? How long does a case last.? Can Iget out of the summons being a stay at home mom with an nursing infant? The baby will take a bottle but he get less than one a week.

The key for you is that you have a NURSING infant. You cannot automatically get out of it, but they should take it into consideration. Call the jury office at ###-###-#### and ask them specifically. Also let them know you will NEED breaks and a clean place to pump to avoid engorgement and decreased milk supply. You may even get your Dr to write such a note. Good luck!
This is what I found when I googled

In many states, it is possible to demonstrate that you are unable to serve on a jury for financial reasons. Proof of employment and/or wages, in addition to comprehensive financial statements and the previous years taxes should all be brought to court with you on the first day you report to jury duty. If you can persuade the judge that it is unfeasible for you to miss work, you will have lost only one day of your time. Lying here would be inadvisable.
Attend jury duty if you don’t come up with an acceptable excuse. Again, don’t be afraid to make phone calls, write letters, and personally ask the clerk of court for a waiver of appearance—it will often be granted. However, if you can’t get out of the initial appearance it is generally the law that you MUST attend. Don’t worry, though. Just because you attend “jury duty‿ does not mean that you will actually end up on a jury.
Come to jury duty with as many preconceived notions and unwavering opinions as possible if you do not want to sit on a jury. If an attorney asks you if you can be objective, say no. If it is a criminal case, make sure to stress that you think all defendants are guilty and deserve to be hung—even if for a moving violation or shoplifting. Attorneys want objective citizens that will listen to the facts of the case.

What about child care?
Children are not allowed to come with you to jury duty.
There is no child care available at the courthouse.
You must make private arrangements for child care.
You may give the clerk's office telephone number to your child care provider as the number to contact you in an emergency. You may be reimbursed for child care and other allowable expenses up to $50 per day, if you do not work full-time (For payment information, click here
I'm not sure how federal works.. I got called for Jury Duty twice and both times I went in for a day and was dismissed. I'd say if you can get out of it because you are nursing, try at least.. I think that nursing should give you some leeway.
Hi- I am an attorney. To answer you question, being a stay at home (and nursing) Mom will not automatically get you out of jury duty. You will not know what type of case or potentially how long until you get there. You should receive a questionaire that will ask questions, including reason why you could not be able to serve, list your child care and nursing issues. Most likely you will not be required to serve (if you are, they should make available a room for you to pump-- make sure you request/demand it).
Wow... They send those? Sorry for sounding dumb as I never received one... I know w/ Oakland County you can post-pone one time. I believe if this works the same way; you can just explain your situation. You do not have enough income to arrange for daycare and you nurse (if you say exclusively they may go for it.) Or, just say that you are too close to whatever situation they present if it does sound like something that may carry out for weeks or a month! LOL... I think many do that, too. ( I have been in such a dysfunctional family that I personally have been!)
Good Luck!
