I went through 5 days of back labor with my first. I think it was mostly due to the fact that I was constipated. Start taking some metamucil now!!
Ok So I have gone into the hospital 3 times now in labor. They have confirmed that I was in labor all 3 times and stopped my contractions. The first 2 times I understand I was 29 weeks this time I am 36 weeks and 4 days. My contractions are about 4 and half min apart and lasting for 3 and half min each, I can deal witht he contractions, what I cant deal with is the back labor and even when they stopped the contractions my back is still spazzing out every few min. I am in horable pain and have not slept because of it. I lay down and toss and turn (more than normal) I can't get comfortable, and I can't go thru this for another night. My Dr told me that if I went into labor after 36 weeksthey weould go ahead and do my c-section, but of course I go to a practice and he isn't the dr on call. I am ready to pull my hair out!!!!! HELP how do I stop or at least deal with this pain better.

get on all fours and do a kind of pelvic rock until your baby moves. Otherwise .... just scream! (i know, NOT funny) Ask for an epideral.
My daughter would not put her head down (chin to chest) so i thought my back was coming apart. there isn't much else you can do. Until Kris dropped her head there was no way she was going thru that cannal. Sorry.
I can understand, I went through labor 4 weeks before finally having our baby and we have 7 beautiful girls. Try very hot baths. That seemed to help tremendously with me. I would just soak for awhile in the tub and it helped my back a lot!
Google EGOSCUE and you can e-mail a therapist, get info to the radio program and ask Pete a ? directly, or pull off a couple of e-cises to mitigate the discomfort.
www.spinningbabies.com This is a web-site with great info on how to turn a baby. Trust me you do not want to deliver your baby this early especially by c-section. You are guaranteed to end up with a tiny baby, who wasn't ready to be born, that received none of the benefits of being born vaginally and will end up in the NICU with breathing problems. I know you are in pain but it's worth it to ensure the health and safety of the tiny little life you have growing inside of you.
Even if hubby can't rub a back to save his life have him try this. you sit on a chair backwards (or any other position that is comfortable for you and gives him access to your back), make fists and you show him where (exactly lol, don't let him try to figure it out on his own) your back is hurting and then just have him press as hard as is comfortable into your back and hold it there. He can do little circles with his fists if you and he want. I got through 3 hours of labor with my cousin doing this for me. I hope it helps I really do and a huge GRATS on the new baby!!!!
are they giving you magnesium sulfate to stop your labor? if so, next time tell them NO, you have that right. they used that on me with both of mine & the first one spent 6 days in NICU and the second 5 days. if a doc tells you there are no side effects or risks to your baby with this drug, get up & go to another dr./hospital. most doctors won't enduce before 39weeks unless there are complications, but all that i have known won't stop labor after 36weeks. your baby knows when they are ready.not trying to scared you, just passing along some useful info. good luck, congradulations, & God be with you.
I know it may not be ideal for sleeping, but I get the feeling you're not going to do much sleeping toninght anyway ;) I had super bad back labor with my first daughter. There were a couple of things that helped. The most helpful was to get on my hands an knees. It helps relieve the pressure from your back. You may even be able to get some sleep like this if you can put some pillows under your head and chest. It may also help if you can "prop" yourself up onto the back of the couch. Just be sure not to allow your weight to shift off of the couch, lol.
Also, if hubby is taller than you, you can stand with your arms around his neck and have him "hug" you while you just let your weight rest in his arms (though this won't last for long, lol).
As for his lack of back rubbing skills, give this a try. Get some tennis balls (3) and a long sock. Put the balls in the sock and have him roll the sock around on your back. All he has to do is just move his hands/arms around. Any hubby can do that. Hang in there sweetie, it really will be over before you know it.
I went into labor at 20 weeks and was in the hospital for 3 months to keep pregnant. I wish I only had to deal with back labor. Just think of it this way, yes it hurts and is painfull, but you're doing it for you baby. I know I would do anything for my kids, no matter how uncomfortable I was, it was all for my kids.
Gravity helped me- get on all fours! It really does help ease the terrible pain. Try to rest your body on your arms and knees and it should release some of the pressure from the baby. Good luck and hang in there!!
Call the doc on call. They should be able to help you. That's why they're on call! Explain to him/her what your doctor had said, tell them you are in terrible pain and that you're having regular contractions. If your doc said they would deliver you, then that's what needs to happen! My daughter was born by emergency c-section at 37 weeks and she was perfect. There was nothing wrong with her lungs, she ate perfectly and never had to spend any time in the NICU. They will probably give you steroids to help the baby's lungs, just in case they aren't developed. I know everyone says to just grin and bear it, but that's not always possible! Back spasms are one of the WORST pains, in my opinion. They make your whole body ache, and it seems like every little movement makes them worse. Contact the doctor and hopefully they will be able to help you! :) Congrats on the new baby..I have a feeling he'll make his entrance into this world very shortly! :)
Your baby is probably in a posterior position. Here are some suggestions to get the baby turned around and off your back:

extra warm baths? Tylenol? Are any of these options for you? I'm so sorry! I know it hurts and no sleep especially with another babe...ugg!! My daughter was posterior and not it's awful.
heat packs and ice packs help a lot. i used them all through labor. take a big tube sock, fill it with rice and rubberband it really securely. throw it in the microwave for 2 minutes and you've got a really great flexible heat pack.
best of luck, you can survive this, and then you'll have a baby!!!!
I can relate . . . my husband was pretty useless in that regard as well! There's a "runner's stick" (can be found at a quality running store) that looks like shorts pieces of PVC pipe that are put over a rod, with handles. Just have the person roll that stick over your back gently . . . it should help with the spasms.
Not really sure of the name of this device . . . just know it works!
