I have a 9 week old Son who was recently diagnosed with a heart mormer. We have had an ekg , where the COmputer called it left and right hypertrophy... BNurse said nt to worry yet cause the age of the baby often causes the computer to interpret the ekg as abnormal. The Xray we took shows Slight Vascular dilation. We await the Cardiac Ultrasound soon. Our pediatrician wasnt worried about it...I am terrified.... Any adise?????? He is SOOOOO healthy otherwiae, and growing well!!!!

What can I do next?

Hi D.,
I don't know much about the different types of heart murmurs, but my husband was born with a heart murmur and he's as fine as fine can be heart-wise. He's a weight lifter, runner, and very physically active (and physically fit). He's even a colon cancer survivor. I'll try to find out what 'type' of heart murmur he was born with, but in the meantime, I hope it helps to know that there's at least one type that does turn out to be 'no worry'. I wish your family the best and will send up a prayer for your son's health.
Btw, Congratulations on your new parenthood. I have a girlfriend on the East Coast who had twins via a surrogate several years ago. Medical science is amazing (with heart care, too). Take care!

I was born with a murmur. Grew out of it in about 4 months. Completely fine now. Also it's really hard to get a good EKG on an infant because any body movements can throw off the electrical readings.

Try to remain calm, I know it's hard. But you and your family can get through this. Congratulations on the new baby.

My son now age 5 was diagnosed with an "innocent" heart murmer at age 3. Apparently sometimes it is hereditary..my husband has one and so does his mom who is now 70 with no health problems. It was scary until they said it was "innocent" going through all the tests. Think positive.

Hi D.!

I was born 31 years ago with a heart murmur, and I went in for YEARS to the hospital to get it checked out. I imagine that this was all pretty scary for my mom, but I was healthy otherwise, and have led a very healthy life. Most of the time, kids "grow out of" their murmur, ie it closes on it's own without the need for surgery. I can understand it being scary, but it really may not be serious. Just make sure that you ask about any necessary premedication for surgery and dental work, just in case that is required. Good Luck!

Hi,

I am 33 and have an innocent murmur, as does my 32-year-old brother, my 57-year-old mom and my 4-year-old son! It's hereditary and not a concern to any of us. I think it's likely that your son's murmur is nothing to worry about at all. :)
