Heart Breaking

I just got off the phone with my vet making the appontment to put our beloved dog down. Bella was diagnosed with Degenerative Myopathy (DM) about 14 months ago. She is unable to use the back two legs and has now lost control of her bowels. A cart did not work for her. I know this is the right decision but my heart is breaking. She has been our "furry daughter" for 11 years and the thought of her not being with us is just so darn sad. Bella is a welsh Corgi and so darn cute, loveable and a pain in the rearend!!! =)

Please keep our family in your thoughts Saturday.

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! This is the second dog we have had to put down. Our first, Fergi, was also 11 and a Corgi when she passed. We were all with her until the end. We will do that with Bella as well. I don't want her scared and alone. I'm her Mom! =) This dog is amazing. She is our Snoopy. She wouldn't sleep in the dog house, she slept on top of the dog house!!!!

She is funny! She will be missed.

I'm sorry S.. I just lost a beloved pet to an accident last night, and I'm crying as I type. Sometimes I wonder if having pets is worth the pain when we lose them. I still hurt for all the many animals I've lost throughout my life.

But since I'm already planning on going to the pet store today, I guess I've answered my question.

(p.s. -- This was a bird, otherwise I would go to a shelter.)

I am so sorry to hear this.

Please know that you are doing the right by your dog.

She will no longer suffer. If she can't walk or go to the bathroom, it is not
a life for her.

She has given you a lifetime of love & devotion, it is only kind enough for you to return the love by caring for her in return at this point.

I will think of you on Saturday and say a prayer to bring you peace on that day. When it becomes too much, try to think of something she did that was her being a complete rascal in order to make you laugh or smile a bit. Hugs for you and your family.

So sorry. Such a hard thing to do. We stayed with our Springer. She just closed her eyes and crossed the bridge. I have never cried so much in my life. Every morning she would want her belly rubs and kisses before she would start her day. She came to us a baby girl and left us a beautiful woman! I wish ther was something I could say to you to help, but there really is not anything that I can say to make it better. Hugs to you.

I am sorry to hear this.

We had to put our Golden Retriever down too, he got sick and we discovered he had a fast growing inoperable cancer. I held his head and kissed him as he passed, he knew he was loved & I knew he loved us in return.

If you can be there loving her as she goes it will be a blessing. [hugs]

My condolences. I had to have two dogs put to sleep (17 and 15) within months of each other in 2010. I know it's hard, but it sounds like you are doing the right thing. My family at the time thought I was nuts, but I actually had a little memorial service for the 1st dog. He was really my "baby" before we had kids and went almost everywhere with us in our first few years of dating and marriage. I felt like I had lost a limb the first few days after he died because I work from home and he was my constant companion. We had some music, a slide show and a casual meal at the "memorial service." Best wishes.

I am so sorry! It sounds like you have done so much for her, and given her such a loving home, she truly is a lucky dog. I know how you feel. They truly are our children too. I lost 2 of my babies within 4 months last year. So hard. I will never get over it either.
GOD will take Bella home and she will be watching you from above (with Buster & Blue!)

So sorry to hear about Bella. We had a welsh corgi growing up - Roxie. I still remember that dog very fondly!

Thoughts and prayers with you and your family. I know it's no comfort, but she will be in a better place, and she will live in your hearts forever!

You're doing the best thing for her. It hurts like hell though. I had to put my 14 year old hound dog down a couple years ago, and it just hurts. It helped that we had a vet that could come to the house to do it - we put his blanket on the deck and all sat around him petting him during the whole thing. As little stress as possible for him...and oddly a comforting memory for us. Hang in there.

I am so sorry. Our pets are a huge part of our lives.

We've been through this 2 times and are looking at it again in the near future with our American Cocker.

It does hurt like crazy. If you can, be with Bella at the Dr. I know that helped us and it was like our dogs were thanking us for letting them go when the time was right.

Remember that you have given this dog a very good life and you have done all you can to help her.

You'll be in my thoughts.

That is always a hard decision to make, even when you know it is the right one.
We have four-footed furry family members too, and I know exactly the pain you are feeling.
When one of ours crosses the veil, I bury him/her in the back yard and perform a leave-taking ritual - a funeral, if you want to call it that.
My heart goes out ot you.

So, so sorry to hear this! It is truly heartbreaking when they pass. We had to have our first kitty put to sleep over two years ago due to kidney failure. She was our furry daughter too, as we got her as a kitten before we had kids. It is so tough! Will definitely be thinking of you all on Saturday.
