Hi T.:
Before we added our kids to my husband's insurance, we had them on their own separate plan. We went through a company called Unicare. We paid around $100 a month for one child (then we added our 2nd when he was born and paid $224 for both). It was a PPO, so we could pick any doctor we wanted; there was no annual deductible; and the co-pays (a percentage) weren't bad at all. They have different plans you can pick from to fit your needs and price range.
All I did was go online and do a search for health insurance in Nevada. I compared a bunch of companies and that was the best one I found. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Nevada has free and or discount insurance through the state. It's a new law that has been in effect for about 5 years. Contact the health department at your son's school about free medical insurance for children. Since you are working they base it on your income and then discount it according to your income bracket.

I used Pacifi Care and then Anthem Blue Cross. Both were fairly affordable. At least better than what my employer was charging me for my dependents. My wonderful new employer pays for our spouses and dependents.
