Headphones for Music

How old is he?
My oldest (15) has a set of Bose that are very nice. My middle one (12) has a set of Sony that are not as good. They both cover the ears and are noise reducing. Their grandparents got them for them for christmas and all seem pleased.

I have a pair of Ear Pollution (by iFrogz), DJ style...I think they are the "billionaire" style...I love them, have been using them for over a year, and they're still holding up well. They have a really nice range from treble to bass, have a better bass range than I've ever had on a headset, and are comfortable to wear for hours at a time.

I can't imagine buying a Bose headset for anyone, let alone a child. Honestly, my Ear Pollution headset has absolutely top-of-the-line performance, and I think I paid about 40 bucks for them on Amazon.

One of my boys has Beats. We all think the sound is great, and he loves them. My FIL has a pair of Bose, and loves those as well. Regarding warranty issues, we had to return his once, because of a wire in the ear speaker, it started cracking. No problems at all. My FIL had to do that with this Bose also, and he had no problems taking them into the Bose store and getting a new pair.

I know Beats are the popular headphones for my son and his friends, they are 10-13 years old. It may be because of the color options they have for the Beats. I have not seen Bose headphones in bright colors so therefore they are not as appealing to the kids.

Depends on the age. My 19 yr old got Bose headphones and wears them around his neck when he isn't listening. A wire broke eventually and Bose replaced them so he is on his second pair. That's been almost three years now... Not cheap but definitely worth the price for as much as he uses them. And he's a BIG music kid-plays guitar, keyboards, etc.
For a younger kid go with something less pricey. They will break or get lost and you can buy in bulk.
I have small ears and LOVE the newer Apple earbuds as they actually FIT!

I'm extremely responsible, and go through 2 pairs a year... On average.

I'm comforted by every SJ & sound engineer I know making my track record look like the holy grail.

If he actually USES them... Takes them everywhere... Loves them: Expect at LEAST 1 new pair each year. These are the responsible kids that love music... So they use their equipment. A lot.

Which doesn't mean buy cheap.
It means either
- Buy where there are great warranties
- Expect him to buy replacements

BestBuy is where most sound engineers & photographers buy their "walking around" gear. Because of the FABULOUS warranty program. Yeah... I took the camera into a foam party. And? Ah. Thankyou. (These are also the people who keep the "refurb" supply running strong.).

My youngest got Beats for Christmas 2 yrs ago and loves them, no problems.

I always go on Amazon and read the reviews. My kids use earbuds and the Philips In-Ear Headphones Music Colors SHE3583/28 come in many colors and are $9.99. My kids are hard on them and we always have several new pairs available. They also each own a pair of headphones in the $25 range from Best Buy and like those as well for when they are at home listening to music. I would not buy my kid Bose headphones, I would not even spend the money for me for those although I hear they are fabulous.

I prefer earbuds and I find skullcap comfortable with great sound. My son recommended them to me and I am very happy with them. I wish they didn't have that weird design, but not enough not to buy them. I got mine at Best Buy.

How old is your son? BOSE is top of the line and comes with the price tag to match. Not cheap and certainly not for young kids. More of an adult toy electronic device. Beats is more of a namebrand and teens get them for that more so than the sound, although the sound is great. I found mine in a dollar store believe it or not. They are I-Vibe's and they are also sold at Bed Bath and Beyond.
