Don't know about smell, but two products come to mind for ridding the carpet and possibly the floor of staining. Melaleuca (pyramid type company) has a great pretreater call Pre-Spot. You can try Craigs list, this site, or just find someone selling the products on the web (this took ball point ink out of my beige carpet after our dog chewed up a pen).

You might also try DD7. It is a petroleum product, but works great at getting stains out of carpet. I had a red stain in a house I bought years ago (before dog/pen incident and knowing about Melaleuca) and it took out the stain. I'm guessing it was probably a Kool Aid stain. It came out pretty easily, even when the professionals couldn't get it out.

You might try SCOE 10X (used for cat urine and I understand it works better than any other product out there).

Kids N Pets might work? I swear by that stuff and have used it successfully on a wide range of nasty smelly stains from cat pee to vomit. Haven't had an experience with mustard yet but I'd be surprised if it didn't work. Good luck!

I haven't tried it on mustard :) but Totally Toddler removed the vomit smell from my upholstered rocker. We buy it at Babies R Us.

Oh! How awful! You need some Charlie's Soap All Purpose Spray. It gets mustard out like nothing I have ever seen! Look them up online to see if they have a retailer near you, otherwise you will have to order it. I get mine from amazon.com but you can order it from the retailer as well.

It's a miracle worker! As far as the smell that you are experiencing right now, I would say that only an open window can fix that problem.
Good luck!

For the smell, you could try putting out some bowls or plates of fresh coffee grounds. Leave them out overnight and see if it helps. I keep cheap stuff on hand just for this purpose. So far, it's worked for fish smells, burnt popcorn smells, onion/garlic smells. I learned this trick from a friend who was a housekeeper at a hotel. They used it to get rid of cigarette smells. Good luck!

Try Bac-Out by Biokleen. You can get it at Fred Meyer. It has enzymes in it and it smells like lime. I love it and use it all the time.

You'll probably have to get a professional. Mustard is horrible. It stains and stinks like nothing else.

Alcohol will work well on the rug. You just have to go over it one time after another. My kids spilled grape juice on the carpet and it came out with cold water over several days. We had grease paint on towels. You little son is perfectly normal.
