So What Happened?

Ok so for anyone that cares to know, I had taken steps and went to my dr. I had my last Period on Dec. 13 when to my dr. about 3 weeks ago, had a pregnancy test come up negative. Ok no big deal. Well, he ordered up some blood work to find out what could possibly be causing me to not have my period b/c I couldn't get pregnant without one. Well, I went a week later after getting blood work for a biopsy on my cervix and the nurse was so confused. She was like I can't believe that you are scheduled for this. I was like what do you mean. She was like you're pregnant. I was like WHAT! Come to find out I was giving false negatives on urine pregnancy tests and the blood work picked it up. I have been pregnant for 9 weeks and am due Sept. 20th. So I guess blood work was all that I needed!

Dear J.,

I know how stressful it can be when you want to get pregnant and every month that darn period shows up. I tried to get pregnant for 3 years by using fertility drugs and charting my ovulation. After 3 years, I switched gears and decided to adopt. (I was told my eggs were too old) 9 months later I was pregnant. You might want to try the ovulation kits that indicate when you are about to ovulate. Then, "try" for at least 3 nights in a row. And, don't forget to take a prenatal vitamin. Good luck!

Hi J.,
I also had trouble getting pregnant the second time and learned it was a nutritional issue. When I fixed that, everything else fell into place. I'd be glad to share what works.

A book called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" might help. It's got a lot of good info in it.

Best of luck!

Hi J., my name is D.. I got pregnant first time with my son too! It took over a year to get pregnant the second time. I finally started using the ovulation tests, got pregnant within 1 month. No kidding. They get to be expensive, but it is worth it. The tests are as easy as a pregnancy test. Good luck and remember when the timing is right it will happen.

Hi. Sorry to hear about your troubles. One of the first thing my dr had me do was take my temp every morning. you need a basal body thermometer and a chart. some therm have a chart you can copy or you can find them on the web. also i went out and bought a book about fertility "taking charge of your fertility". once i got a 2-3 cycles down i saw my dr to see if i was actually ovulating. it took a couple months and two misscarriages but we finally got a healthy baby. then about two yrs after that we some some issues trying again. it then took another year of diff meds and another miscarriage to get our baby girl. i wish you the best of luck and hope that this might help.

Honestly, it's only been 4 months. Most doctor's won't even talk to you about fertility treatments or anything of that sort until you've been trying for a year, at your age. If you were 35, they'd start doing tests and such after 6 months of trying.

We got pregnant with our first son while using a condom. It broke, and he appeared, lol. But with our second son, it took us 2 1/2 years.

My advice to you, for now, is quit "trying". Your cycles are wonky, so get that straightened out. Your dr. might be able to give you Provera.

If you absolutely want to go nutso with trying, then the best thing to do is sign up on Fertiltyfriend.com. It's a free website and you can keep track of your ovulation and cycles there.

They will teach you how to do PROPER temping, how to check for cervical mucus (which is in abundance when you ovulate, and a GOOD thing), tips on how to help the process along, it will tell you when you've ovulated, if you've hit your days needed, etc.

There are also message boards that you can chat with other TTCer's about your struggles. But like I said, it's only been 4 months. That's nothing. You're just putting more pressure on yourself right now. Which can contribute to the wonkiness in your periods. Stress will throw you all off. So have a glass of wine, relax, and have FUN!

If you want to ask me more questions, please feel free to email me at ____@____.com. I did the charting for a year and a half.

There is a lot of things you can find on the internet. My friend and her husband are trying to get pregnant and here is what her doc said(she has irregular periods too) There are only four days out of the month you can most likley get pregnant thats three days before you ovulate and the day of ovulation. Take your tempeture everyday. When you are going to or are ovulating your temp will rise. Also your discharge will be more thick and white like the color of eggs. You also need to relax know this when it is time it will happen. Stop thinking about it all the time stress will not help anything.
Good luck and you will have to let us all know when it is postive.

Hi J.,
I tried to get pregnant for 7 years, did invitro twice, numerous inseminations and spent a ton of money. Finally I decided to take the doctors and guess work out of it. I bought a Clear Plan Easy fertily monitor on e-bay for $100, at a pharmacy they are about $200. I have had 2 babies since. It's awesome especially when your periods are irregular cause it tells you exactly when to have a "date!"

Good luck,
S.

Jen! When you got pregnant with Tim was there anything at stake? It just happened didn't it? No pressure? I know you are thinking there is something wrong but really don't freak out yet. I went 6 mths before I got pregnant with Mel. I know you know a lot of ppl who are trying and I think that is where the stress and pressure is coming from. Just my opinion tho. The only advice I can give you is google.com! Research over and over. not just one website for 15 mins. When you have some free time really research ways to get pregnant, ways to regulate your cycle, and things to ask your doctor. Like I said, it just takes time and just don't say crazy stuff like you ovulate every day or two. just kidding. I am here for you and I wish I could be more help maybe someone else will have something better for ya! take care

Hi, I tried to get pregnant for years I was at a health seminar one day and the lady talked about several of her friends that couldn't get pregnant and told what they did and it worked for all of them. it's simple www.naturessunshine.com it is a health/vitamin store they have a product called female comfort it is suppose to regulate anything that is not right with the female system. my periods were all out of whack like every 60 days or 50 days always different i started taking it and after 1 month i had a regular 28 day period then next month i got pregnant. One of my best friends tried it and it worked for her as well. so you can check into it. it isn't expensive either so that is good! Hope this helps.

I second the suggestion to read Toni Weschler's excellent book called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" - it will teach you how to track your fertility, determine if/when you're ovulating, and a whole bunch of other really important things about our amazing female bodies. I think this is a "must read" for all women, especially those who are trying to get pregnant. I used the charting method to conceive our 2nd baby and found it very helpful. A friend of mine started charting only to find that she had irregular ovulatory patterns, and once she identified the pattern, she & her husband were able to conceive quite effectively. Yet a different friend of mine was considering hormones for possible infertility, but after reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" she decided that hormones would not be best for her and instead she sought the help of an accupuncturist with whom she had wonderful results in a matter of 6-8 weeks.

So... before adding any drugs/hormones to your body, I'd encourage you to read Weschler's book and determine what the best course for you might be (and if you still choose hormones, at least you will do so knowing that you did thorough research)!

Best of luck to you - I hope you get pregnant quickly. :)

Stress seems to signal a woman's body not to conceive. The more you stress out about it, worry about it, and think about it, the more stress your body will be under and the longer it will take to conceive. Four months isn't that long, and you aren't old. It's not unusual for it to take a little while longer to get pregnant with the second kid. Relax, enjoy yourself and your husband and son, and when you are supposed to get pregnant, you will. Sometimes when you are trying really hard to get pregnant, you don't, and when you quit trying, you get pregnant. That has happened to two people I know recently, and a lot of it had to do with stress.

I believe if you relax, take life a day at a time and be patient, it will happen. Sometimes they say you can try to hard. I actually know a girl that dr's told she could not have kids. She forgot, gave up and got pregnant several months later. Good luck
