Have You Waxed Your Under Arms?

Has anyone out there waxed their underarms (yes, the pits)? I am thinking about this, but I have reservations - how painful is this? How long does it last before needing it done again? What about ingrown hairs? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I recently took a waxing class to get some CEU hours.... I was shocked at the volunteers who got their legs, bikini and underarms waxed! I am such a wuss when it comes to just waxing my eyebrows... I volunteered for that only! The girl who did her underarms was wincing before they "ripped" it off. After that she was completely fine with doing it! It was more fear of the unknown! She said it felt the same as doing her eyebrows!

It lasts a couple of weeks before needing to wax again- depending on texture and amount of hair. The more often that you do it then longer in between. Also the longer you do it the softer the hair will be as it grows back in.

As for ingrown hairs... I do not remember exactly what they said in class but something about having less ingrown hairs than you would with shaving!

Good luck to you!

Hi Tracy,
I used to get my underarms waxed and it was great. I would say that it's the most painless out of everything. It's great b/c you don't have to worry about it for weeks and they are so silky smooth. However, you do have to grow the hair long enough for them to be able to wax them each time and that was not fun, especially in the summertime.
I never had ingrown hairs and it's the least painful out of everything. I get eyebrows, partial brazilian, legs, lip, etc. but I stopped the armpits, only b/c I can't stand having to let it grow out.

I used to do it (I did it for my wedding mainly - I had a strapless dress & my underarms are extremely sensitive to the point where I couldn't shave & where deodorant), but have stopped because it didn't fit into my monthly budget anymore.

It hurt as much as eyebrows did, and (as I stated above) I have very sensitive underarms.

You need to let the hair grow out for at least two weeks because not all the hair is grown out (even though it looks like it may be) after only a week. This was the most difficult part (try to become intimate with hairy armpits).

Just go to a salon for at least the first one, most salons have staff trained on what to do correctly. If you aren't sure of which salon is best, ask around. I tried one in Elgin that did a horrible job, but found one in Crystal Lake that was wonderful (only went there because my hair stylist for the wedding was located there).

I do my own at home waxing. A girlfriend got me started (she waxes Everything) she thinks the pits are the worst but I don't think they are bad at all. It will of course be tender the first time or two you do it just because your body isn't used to it.
A lot of people say you don't have to do it very often but it depends on how fast your hair grows I notice mine ready to be done again around 2wk. But like others say too, it is coming in not as think now and softer. Yea, the summer growing part of it sucks but hey we women can put up w/ a lot! Go For It!!!

go for it..i just started doing a couple months ago and its the best thing i've ever done. i used to have really course, sharp underarm hairs and after waxing they grew back so thin and soft that i never even noticed it grew back until my husband pointed it out and got grossed out. i've had a few ingrown hairs that i just tweeze out myself, but they never made my underarms itchy or anything.and i don't thikn its painful at all--as long as you go to someone who's qualified and good.
