J.B.
I served in the Army, 4 yrs at Ft. Irwin California. It was immediately after Desert Storm. Find Ft. Irwin on a map, and it was not the best of locations.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I know there are some people on here who have either served or are married to one who has served...or is still Active Duty....
I would like to thank you for your service and sacrifices to our country. Being military is never easy....making a career of it is even harder...THANK YOU!!! for you all you do and have done!!
I have been stationed (as a dependent and GS) to Taiwan, Hawaii, Belgium, Germany, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Norfolk, VA....I was VERY young in Hawaii and loved it. I think my most favorite assignment was Germany. So since we have to keep this as a question - have you served? And if so - what was your favorite duty station?!?!?!

I didn't serve but my father and my husband did. My father fought in WWII and my husband was a Captain in the Air Force. I'm very proud of both. :)
I have not served.
My Dad was in Vietnam. He does not talk about it much. Does not have many faun memories. And did not agree with the war. He enlisted before he was ever drafted. He saw the draft coming. Knew he had a very good shot of being called, and did not want to leave me mom like that. For this I commend him.
I always just give him a kiss on the fore head on Veterans days. Cause he does not want to be thanked for something he did not agree with.
My Brother in Law was an Army ranger. We were best buddies before my sister and him met. He was in Kuwait. I have sand he brought back. It was the coolest gift I think I have gotten.
Almost every adult I know, has served in some way shape or form...Or is married or related to someone who has served.
I have some good friends how served in Iraq. None of them are the same as before they went over. Most can not hold jobs to save their life. Most thankfully knew each other from home, before going, and have pretty much stuck together since getting out. A few of them, went as far as even renting a house together.
I am now fighting along side of some of the best Veterans. We have a group that comes out for our marches in full Sand Gear.
I think if I were to ask the Full Time Occupiers if they had ever served the Answer would be a loud ''YES'' . In fact off the top of my head at least 10 of the 25 that are permanently Calling Occupation Park home , and are retired. Three that are part time, actual Reservist and one is getting ready to go to Africa.
They have made me realize what being an American Citizen is all about.
I Thank them more today then I ever have before.
This was something posted to my face Book this morning....Warning it will make you cry. But it sums up how many Thank you's we owe to the Service men and their Families. We all take our freedom for granted. At the cost of these peoples lives. That is something Thank You does not even cover.
You guys deal with so much...that makes my life and what I have been through look like a cake walk done backwards with a blindfold in perfect form.

Thank you for defending the freedom we take for granted as FREE. The blood of others marks what we HAVE. WHAT we consider so dear to us...yet we give them no credit. Or not enough.
Off my box....Cause I have never served and do not really have a leg to stand on over the matter.
Man, I wish we had had your family's duty assignments!
My husband serves, and we all kind of serve by association.
His assignments have been in Nebraska, Korea, Oklahoma, Ohio and Delaware. We are hoping the next one is more exciting!
I will say with some pride that he has done deployments in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iraq, and Iraq again.
We couldn't be more proud of him!
My brother is on his first tour in Afgan right now. I'm so proud of him and all those who are fighting for us. Thank you so very much for your recognition and your kind words.
I have not, but my dad served in the Navy during Vietnam. He was stationed in San Diego (his favorite) and the Philippines, where I may have some older brother or sister running around (he was supposed to marry a girl there before they moved him over to Vietnam).
My husband was on the USS Nimitz, during the 1st Gulf War. He went around the world twice. His favorite places were Germany, Tokyo, and Dubai. He spent most of his time in the gulf, but lived for Fleet Week!
My FIL was a Black Beret Paratrooper in the Vietnam War. He is a proud member of the Order of The Purple Heart. He talks fondly about Germany alot. I think he really loved it there.
I did in the Army many moons ago when I was 19 for 6 years until I met a handsome Marine...got out and married him. I was stationed in Fort Greely Alaska(near the Artic circle). Awesome place to visit...beautiful scenery....Mohammad Ali came there to our NCO club...he was there filming a Ford Diehard Battery commercial. No photos allowed. Also with husband,,,stationed at Camp Pendleton CA...loved it...even went on the Price Is Right. Being in the Army was wonderful....helped make me what I am today.
THANK YOU CHERYL!! :)
I haven't served, but my daddy did, and my best friends husband just got home last week :)
My aunt was stationed in Germany for years, that was her favorite by far!
THANK YOU!! :)
Yes, I am currently on Active Duty in the US Navy. I have 8 years in and just re enlisted last week which will take me to 14 years. I am working at Bethesda Naval Hospital as a lab tech. I like the DC area, but my favorite place was San Diego. It's beautiful there, and has the best weather out of anyplace I have been. Before that I was in Virginia Beach.
And thank you to you as well Cheryl! GS, dependents, and contractors as well keep the mission going! I couldn't serve without the support of my family!
I am currently stationed at Lackland AFB but am assigned to Fort Sam Houston. This has been my only duty station thus far...San Antonio is the blackhole of the Air Force...it can be hard to get orders out of here! I have been trying and trying to go overseas! How great your assignments were! Germany is my top pick, but would settle for Italy, England, Portugal....anywhere in Europe! Hopefully I'll get the chance before I separate!
Happy Veteran's Day to all and their families!!!
My husband did 23 years in the Air Force. He went in with Viet Nam and retired after the first Gulf War in 1992.
We lived in Tucson, Quebec, Las Vegas, Germany (8 yrs) and now retired in New Mexico. It has taken me 16 plus years to adjust to being home. I do miss Germany for the Autobahn, the Bratwurst and fries, and the laid back living pace. Each place had its own special interests and it would be hard to pin point one.
Thanks to all that served.

Retired Military Wife
Both my father and my husband were career AF men. So, my life has been one of transition. My husband is finally retired, so we are growing some roots. We have lived all over the place to include Japan and England. My favorite place was England, where my husband was on exchange with the Royal Air Force. So, we didn't live at a US military base, but far away from the US influence. We were completely submersed into the culture, which isn't too hard to do in England. We have gone back several times to visit with friends. While we were ready to come back to the States after our time there, we miss it terribly.
Air Force Brat. Germany was best station.
My grandfather on my moms side was in the service. Several other relatives too. My dad was in the National Guard, M. was in the Womans Marines. My husband was in the Air Force when we met. He had been in Viet Nam for 14 months and we met 3 days after he came back to the states. Im grateful to all and very proud of anyone who serves their country.
I served in the Army fr. 98 - 02 then got out. My husband has served since 97 & just switched his MOS - we're in for life :-)
My first duty station was my absolute favorite - Helemano, HI. I would be back there in a heartbeat if I could. We developed some outstanding friendships with our neighbors (locals - not military), it's where I met my husband & got married, I got my Master Diver & Dive Master certs there.
Now we're in Colorado & while I do like it it's just too darn cold for me!!
Thank yoiu for your service as well Cheryl!
My husband and i have not but my dad did. He earned a purple heart in Vietnam and was shot twice. Later on in his life he was diagnosed with cancer that was a result of being near agent orange on the mission in which he earned his purple heart. It paralyzed him and he died as a result of that.
My Grandfather also served in WW11, but he had a much easier service
Both my Father and my husband were US Army and have said they enjoyed their time in Germany..albeit 20+ years apart.
Guten Tag !! My hubby and I met while he was stationed in Germany after Desert Storm. He is currently a Member of the Air National Guards at Andrews AFB. He left the active service after coming home from Kuwait and so we never got stationed anywhere. He joined the Reserve instead. But he always talks about his time in Greece. He loved it there.
