Wow! That's more than I have seen out here. I was just on the phone with my IT department and in having MSN splash across about the shooting, I haven't seen any more info.
wow....seven people dead at LAX....
Have you seen the news??? Suspect is in custody.
Not sure where it happened in the airport - just caught the news out of the corner of my eye and noticed what it was saying...
I've personally never thought we were "safer" with TSA - if there's a will - there's a way.
When I first saw the news here in DC - it said 7 dead. Looks like they were wrong...media has been wrong about many things in the past.
In regards to TSA - no - I don't "feel" safer with the security points - one airport didn't see my Leatherman Tool (pliers, knife, screw drivers, etc.) that I keep in my purse. Another caught it and made me send it to myself (at a cost of $15.95).
I'm happy to hear there are NOT more deaths than originally reported.

Cheryl, I do hope I'm reading you last comment wrong "safer" with TSA?
I have family members who are TSA agents and they do the best they can with the little training and salary they receive. I am not saying they are all wonderful (like all jobs; you have your good & your bad) all I am saying is that some of the agents risk their life's, have to deal with a lot of stuff & make hardly anything to try and keep us safe.
I've personally never thought we were "safe" with current gun laws.
The last school shooting was barely a blip on the news.
We're getting used to gun violence.
Unacceptable.
This surprises you? Not me, prior to the security check points an airport is like any other place people gather.
People shoot each other in America. Well over 200 per day on average (not including accidents and suicides).
Drives me crazy how we sensationalize some and ignore the vast majority unless we are personally connected. Gee, maybe we should make buying guns just a teensy bit harder. Like Patricia suggested at least as challenging as getting a driver's license.
I am sad for the ONE death confirmed of the TSA agent, likely just doing his job and lost his life trying to protect others. I'm also sad for the countless other gun victims we will not hear about who died today. I just keep hoping someday we'll all wise up and actually do something about this insanity.
So some of you think making it harder to get a gun license would help huh? Yes, I am sure the crazy people that are looking to go shoot up an airport will be devestated to learn they cannot do so without a gun license. The only people that apply for licenses are people that care about laws in general. I sincerly doubt that a person that is willing to participate in a mass shooting will be detered by not having a license. Its called a black market. We cant pretend that the only way to buy a gun is the legal ways. Guns exist, therefore it is too late for gun control. Its simply impossible to get them all off the streets now. Black market will always exist to some extent and there will always be a way for a determined criminal to get a gun. License smisence. Now if everyone had a gun, I bet those same cowards that want to shoot up airports and movie theaters and college campuses would think twice.

1TSA agent killed, another security officer injured, suspect in custody ...
Prayers for the agent's family who sacrificed his life and for the injured officer.
Well, the searching happens before boarding, it's NOT the TSA's fault they didn't catch the person unless they got through to the gates, so that's not fair. People were running from the security area, which is where they would have taken the gun from the shooter.

We'd be safer if it was as hard to get a gun license and gun as it is to get a driver's license. And it would be cool if there were gun insurance like car insurance (for accidents, etc.).
The story is still developing.
I'll check back with CNN in awhile when they have more facts and less speculation.
Sorry I got stuck on the 'utility knife I keep in my purse'...
Everything i have read, has reported "several injuries." I've not seen anything about a death.
It's too early in this to start talking about deaths...
I've literally not seen one source say anything about a death. Sure you heard that right?
Here's a novel idea-have the security outside the airport-like in Israel-not one incident since 1972-hello???
I thought I read on FB that a TSA agent was shot (but not killed thank God ETA: Sounds like a TSA agent was killed unfortunately). :( I am very sad for all the innocent people involved.
Are they now going to scan and/or frisk you on the highway before you even drive into the airport?
I'd like to know a whole lot more about the shooter. Background, drugs taken (legal and illegal), etc.
Sad. :(
I have been watching CNN and MSNBC and all they are reporting are two shot, and several injured, no reports of deaths.
I hope you are wrong about the deaths.
Airport is a gun free zone, like every other place that has had shootings. My prayers go out to the family of the TSA agent. Criminals do not care about gun laws. Sad to say, we live in a screwed up world. Thank God only one life was lost, but that is too many.
i just checked CNN right now, the TSA agent is dead. That is the only death so far.
