I am planning on taking my 5 and a half year old to the movie tomorrow to spend some one on one time with her. Has anyone seen this movie? Are there scary parts? I hate how disney has to make everything SUPER INTENSE, its like using your caps too much. HA!

What can I do next?

Well, we are liberals so we were fine with the politics. My DD loved it and still talks about how important trees are and that she wants to plant some. Made her biologist mommy very proud:)
-- I forgot she is 4.5 and usually scared of her own shadow...so I think if she was fine anyone else will be :)

It was terrible ! It was mean, nasty and cruel for most of the movie--Then, it ended so wonderful and sweet.

Walk into the movie and watch the last 15 minutes of it. Other than that, it was intense & pathetic.

Personally, I would skip it.

I hate Disney movies.

I agree with Kristina. My kids (ages 6, 4, and 2) enjoyed it. I was completely repulsed over how political it was.

I thought is was a great movie and my 5 year old loved it. There is a lot of singing but it is not worded like Dr Seuss usually is.

This is not a Disney movie it is a Universal movie.

I absolutely HATED that movie. It was nothing but political undertones about how the rich take from the poor. One of the songs actually had the repeating phrase "survival of the fittest" in one of its lyrics. I can usually stomach most kids movies (and look past any hidden meanings/agendas), but this one was horrid. Two of my kids even asked to leave half way through. But, if you're a liberal, you'll probably love it.

My 10 year old didnt think so neither did I. They had some grown up morals that i'm not sure she got the full extent of.

I took my 5 and 2 year olds to see it, and we're pretty picky. Not scary at all.

I saw it with my 6 year old son. It was cute. Not particularly intense and not scary. It isn't totally faithful to the book, either, but worth seeing none the less.

Enjoy.

It's totally fine, nothing intense that I recall. We went with my 2 year old niece and my boys, who are 6 and 8 and they all enjoyed it.

I haven't seen it, but if you want to spend some time with her without sitting quietly in a dark room, maybe you could go mini-golfing, bowling, to a museum, a science station, the zoo, the park, feed ducks at a pond, buy a few groceries to take to a food pantry and see if they'll let her stock them on the shelves, even the dollar store with a $5 bill in hand. Any and all of those can be done for the same price (or much less!) than a movie and popcorn, and all of them would give you a lot better lesson and memories than staring at a huge screen in the dark for 90 minutes getting whatever "lesson" Disney wants you to hear.

I'm not judging, I promise, I'm just giving fun suggestions for today or any future mommy-daughter days!

I have not seen it, but want to, my son liked the Horton Hears a Who remake and I think he would like this. I read some of the other answers you got though and am not sure I want to see it now if its gone all political. The orginal Lorax movie was about saving the planet. ("I am the Loax I speak for the trees. let em grow let em grow" love that movie)

We took our kids -4, 7 and 9- to it and they enjoyed it. It was not at all scary. My husband and I hated it, though! It was sooo loud (Yeah, I sound old!!) and it was just...not good. Not as bad as the Smurfs, but almost! Sorry! But maybe it won't seem so bad to you if you are expecting it to be a bit of a stinker ;)
