Have You Ever Tried Hypnosis?

I am considering hypnosis for my fear of flying. The older I get the worse my fear gets. I know it's irrational. I've read all the books, talked with pilots, etc. In my head I realize nothing will happen, but I still have this overwhelming fear. I avoid vacations that we cannot drive to. Now that my kids are getting older, I don't want our family's experiences to be limited by my fear. Has anyone ever had successful hypnosis for this or any other issues? I'm not sure what to expect from it.
Thanks in advance!

Morning

YES, I have tried Hypnotherapy for a few things, Claustrophobia/Anxiety while on public transportation. I think it worked in the sense ok,I was more relaxed and after a few sessions was able to ride transit and feel a bit less stressed, so much so that I didn't get off the bus/metro when it got too crowded. This was something I did and was beginning to do it more and more.

That said, what I learned about Hypnotherapy and other things (check out EFTUNIVERSE.COM) <<<< also, a type of alternative therapy and stories on there specifically about people overcoming flying.. is that.. you don't just go in and come out cured. It usually takes SEVERAL (maybe months) of sessions and those sessions get expensive.... I did about 12 of the hypnotherapy and 5 of the EFT... and yet, I still suffer from several anxiety driven behaviors. I will say, I definitely believe in the EFT more than the hypnosis (that is just my opinion) because it's something you can also practice on yourself.. if you go to that website, it will explain all about it.. in turn, there are practitioners listed. Which leads me to, doing EFT can be a personal experience in that it's believed that the fear of flying for example if just perhaps an outward expression of something else... therefore, while in session, you begin to explore the fear but then you end up finding out, the fear began with something entirely different. Also, it's a tedious process because you focus specifically on an issue until the " energy" is completely cleared. Again, I do believe in it but it was getting too expensive.. so I bought my own book, EFT MANUAL by Gary Craig and found that useful...

definitely check out the site, you ll find it VERY interesting.... and IF you do decide to do something with EFT. one, make sure you do it face to face.. many EFT practitioners will do it via phone. that works once you really know how to do the process. Two, make sure the practitioner has been doing EFT for a long time and didn't just take a weekend course. Three, don't sign up for a second session right away.. go to ONE.. then see how it feels AWAY from the person.. I found that because you end up talking and working on many PERSONAL things, you really need to feel super comfortable with the person. if you don't that will delay the process.. don't let them tell you, oh you need to commit.. simply tell them, I want to see how I feel AWAY from here and will let you know if I am coming back..... this way, there are no secrets... Also, you might want to ask about their experience with other clients... and progress made or not.. don't let them tell you, you may not cure fear of flying, but you will feel better........ duh..... a person can feel better hanging out with good friends.. like any practitioner, you have to be selective.. go with your GUT instinct..........

I wish you the best..

Ditto AL - I was going to recommend the exact same thing: EFT...it stands for Emotional Freedom Technique, which is a self-applied accupressure tapping...its' free, google it on Youtube....give it a try. You can use it anywhere.

I would also recommend EMDR or visiting with a Psychotherapist who is trained in visualization techniques. I have tried hypnotherapy....and for me personally, it does not work.

I'm a hypnotherapist in the Miami area, it helps many people with a wide variety of issues - some people respond more quickly and powerfully to hypnosis than others, while anyone who is motivated to try it can benefit. You are guided into a relaxed state (sometimes referred to as trance or altered state, kind of like being daydreamy) and the therapist helps you shift the patterns and associations held in your subconscious mind. Hypnosis is one of the safest healing tools available and it is very well-documented to produce positive, lasting results. I began working with hypnosis and other mind-body and energetic healing methods after already training in conventional counseling/psychotherapy at the master's level, realizing that regular therapy methods often can't directly address the source of a problem and are limited in their effectiveness. I get far better results by including these holistic therapies.
Best wishes with whatever you decide to do about the flying issue.

I used self hypnosis (Hypnobirthing) with the birth of our second baby. I was fearful and needed to learn to remain calm. It worked so well that people couldn't tell I was in labor. I arrived at the hospital at 8cm, quietly breathing while others were screaming at 1 cm. I don't know how much different it is from regular hypnosis, but I would at least try it if I were you. Fear of flying is debilitating.
