Has This Happened to You Before?

Ok, so here is a little background. I miscarried my second baby 4 weeks ago (June 10) at about 9 1/2 weeks and had a d & e procedure. Once I was cleared, my husband and I continued to get romantic, but without any effort to try and get pregnant again. We were waiting until I had a cycle. Well something told me to take a pregnancy test today and it came back positive (I have not had a period yet). I have always heard that there is no such thing as a false positive, but I am skeptical that I am pregnant. I used an EPT Certainty Digital test so there weren't any lines to miss-read. I am having a hormone level number taken tomorrow at the doctor's office to see if this is a new set of hormones or remaining hormones from my last pregnancy. My doctor seems to think that I am pregnant again. I guess my question is if this has happened to any of you. I am scared that if I am pregnant, that it is too early and my body isn't ready. Thanks for your help and words of advice.

So What Happened?

7/10/08 Update: Ladies... I am pregnant! When I went in today they got my results right back and I had quadrupled to a 64!!! I am on restricted activity until I am 12 weeks, but am SO happy to be on it! Yay!
7/9/08 Update:
I went in for blood work yesterday and my hormone level was at a 16.3. This doesn't tell us anything because it is higher than not pregnant and lower than pregnant for sure so I have to go back tomorrow for my updated numbers. We are looking for them to double. Thanks for all of the advice I have gotten so far. You all have answered my questions and made me feel a lot better. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!!!

Read the box on the PG test. I seem to remember when I read the box on the one I took it specifically said that if you where taking the test within 3 months of being PG that you can get a false positive. That definintally doesn't mean that you are not PG, but it could be a false pos.

I have had a similar experience. I miscarried in Sept. 2003 at 13 weeks. Afterwards, my husband and I continued to get romantic, but not taking any precautions- we had sort of come to terms with having a baby when I miscarried, so we decided that if it happened, it happened. Well, I got pregnant with our oldest daughter within 5 weeks of my miscarriage, and I never had a period before either. The dr. said that it is the best time to get pregnant again, after a miscarriage, as your body is more fertile. As far as it being too hard on your body- it shouldn't be. It's not as taxing on your body as a full term pregnancy. Good luck at the dr's office.

My friend actually had a miscarriage(early stages also). She then got pregnant the next month and just delivered her healthy baby boy in june:)Her doctor told her you are most fertile after a miscarriage (why , I don't know). With you having a d&c it also increases your odds because the lining is good and ready for the embryo to attach. Good luck !

I am so sorry for your loss. I have had a false positive, and it wasn't after my miscarriage. But I did become pregnant very soon after I miscarried and I never had a period between either. Good luck and I wish you the best.

This has happened to me. Unfortunately, I've had eight miscarriages (four before my son, and four after), and I had one false positive due to hormones leftover from a pregnancy with twins I lost. My ob did an ultrasound to discover that there was no baby, but still a sac, so my body thought it was still pregnant. After that, the ob had me go in for blood tests literally once a week, until the hormone count went down all the way, then we were given the green light to try again. That's when I got pregnant with my son.

In reality though, you may very well be pregnant. I know you want answers immediately. We all would. But just let your doctor do his/her job and find out the right way. No matter how many people respond to this message, your experience is completely different from anyone else's, and the only answer you'll get with any clarity is that from your doctor.

Wish you the best.

From all I've heard from friend who have suffered miscarriages, you are often more fertile following a miscarriage. Many of them have gotten pregnant right away again, and most of those were successful pregnancies. Best of luck, hope you get good news at the doctors office!

Hi A.! Well, let me tell you what I think from a doula's point of view. I have actually had a couple of clients that had similiar situations as you are describing and they were pregnant, and they did ok. How many children do you have now? I am sorry about your miscarriage. That is to bad. I know that had to of been so hard. But, it is true. It is nearely impossible to get a false positive. You can get a false negative though, but positive, I have never seen that. So my guess would be that yeah, you are really pregnant. Good luck to you. I hope it all goes well. Be encouraged though that I have had a couple clients that this has happened to and they had beautiful babies that went to term.

I am about 35 weeks pregnant with a baby my husband and I conceived only 2 weeks to the day after a miscarriage. It took me 7 weeks to actually believe I was pregnant because I too never had a period after my miscarriage. I had pregnancy symptoms but kept pushing them off as side effects from the miscarriage. I eventually took a test and it read PREGNANT so I made an appointment at my OBGYN and he confirmed with level tests and ultrasound that I was in fact pregnant. The baby is completely healthy and growing well despite all my nervousness about my body not being ready to carry another baby.

Good luck and I hope everything turns out the way you want.
