Well I finally got on a anti-depressant. I started it last tues and I have been so tired everyday since I have taken it. Is this normal? It has made me calmer, but a little irritable when I get super tired. Has anyone tried this? If so, how did it make you feel? I am thinking about getting off of it. I wanted energy not tiredness.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the great advice. I feel like I need to listen to my body. When the doctor first told me I needed anti-depressants, my insides cringed, but I listened and it has been quite a challenge getting the one I was wanting. I have not felt at peace with taking a anti-depressant but I thought I would give it a try. After one week of feeling 10 times worse than what I was before, it's not worth it to me to wait it out for the pill to start to work. I am not one to take medications anyways, so I think my body went into shock. I have decided to go a natural way with a total body cleanse, cleaning out toxins and parasites, along with getting a good multivitamin and some B vitamins. I took a natural pill called Damina Leaves years ago and it made me feel so good right away. I think I will have to purchase that again. Again, thank you all for taking the time to help me reach my decision. Thanks and God Bless you all!!

I have been taking it for several years and love it. I actually gives me energy. I have taken the generic brand and don't like it at all. It just didn't work for me. Are you taking the generic one? If so, it may not be working for you. You might try the regular version.

I was on this for a long time. The trick is to take it before bed. It makes you sleep a little better and you should wake up refreshed. And if that doesn't work, take Effexor XR.

In my experience, the generic was night and day different from the name brand, I refuse to take the generic, please don't give up, just ask your doc for a new scrip for non generic and try it for two weeks, it should not be doing what you say it is doing!

Hi Tiffany,
I haven't tried Bubropion but I have been on Sertraline (generic for Zoloft) for about 2 years now and when I started it I was SOOOO TIRED at first! It does go away as your system gets use to it! Don't give up on it... it takes a few weeks for you to feel the full effects and for the tiredness to go away! About six months ago I thought I could get off mine and was right back where I was before - very irritable! So, I went right back on it! One thing to remember... when you stop an anti-depressant you have to ween yourself off of it - don't stop cold turkey (you will have headaches etc)!
Try to stick with it so you can see the full benefits! Good Luck!!! K.

Hello T.
I am a nurse and when some of my patients are tire when taking this medication. I simply tell them to switch their schedule of taking the medication. Try taking it at night if you are taking it in the morning. This may help. You will get more rest at night. You may not be as tire. If that does not work consult your doctor. Your dosage may need to be adjusted.
Good luck. R.

That's amazing. When I was on it years ago, it gave me SUPER energy. I was literally bouncing off the walls. I was given it because I was very fatigued and wasn't eating much. After I started taking it, all of that completely changed.

I guess the effects are different for different people.

I have been on buproprion before and although I did not experience those kind of symptoms, I know it does take about 2 weeks before the medicine takes full effect. I would definitely talk to your doctor before making any changes. Good luck.

I currently take the generic version of Wellbutrin and it works for me. I take it for PMS symptoms and it takes the edge off somewhat for me. I do not have any side effects from it besides losing a few pounds when I first started taking it. I did try Prozac a few years ago and it made me want to sleep all of the time and extremely irritable!! My mom has taken Prozac in the past and it did not make her irritable. Every medication effects every person differently. You might have to try a few different ones before you find one that will work for you. Talk to your doctor and see what he/she says. I am not sure what anti-depressant out there will give you more energy, but your doctor might be able to tell you.

My husband was on the generic version, & it completly changed him & not for the better. He was very mean & irritable, it took a while to figure out it was the bupropion. Thank goodness! Because I thought we were heading for a divorce! But, all medication reacts differently in different people. I say, take it with caution.

It takes a couple of days for the meds to get in your system.
I would not stop it. But rather call your dr on Monday if you can stand it.. Or even talk to your pharmacist. Good luck.

I was on that for a while- It worked pretty good-but it does take about two to three weeks at the least to get over the tiredness. once your body gets used to the drug-it will level out. the best thing is to be sure that you take it at the same time every day and note when you are the most tired. Make sure that you have something VERY ACTIVE, but not strenuous, to do until after this time. Walk around, do something outside, anything that will keep you awake. If it does not get better, talk to your doctor. It made me not very interested in my husband, so I switched to Cymbalta. It has a few less side effects in that area, and is very mild. Hope this helps!!

I stopped taking this medication last September. I started taking the medication in 2005 as my neurosurgeon felt that my problems were emotionally founded. I too found that I felt tired and if I was foolish enough to forget a pill, I felt really bad. I took the brand name as well as the generic and experienced the same with both. The redeeming factor that I found with it was that I was able to shed some pounds as my appetite was not the same.

Hi T., I had horrible symptoms on that medication and tiredness was one of the nicer ones. I would give it a little while and see how you feel. Most of the ones I tried made me tired but I just had to decide that being tired was better than being anxious. Good luck!

I've taken anti-depressants on and off for years. I was on Bupropion for over a year more recently, as well as Lexapro at the same time. I was on one for depression (Lexapro) and the other (Bupropion) to counter-act the side-effects from the first. I recently switched from those as I think they had reached their "shelf life" in my body. And, I just went off my most recent drug, Cymbalta, because I want to try to get pregnant soon. I'm currently going through Cymbalta withdrawals. Ugh.

First off, you may need to give the drug time to take effect. This can take a couple weeks - possibly even a month. Give it a little time, and if you continue to feel tired, it could be that Bupropion may not be a good fit for your body. Anti-depressants work well in general, but every person's body is different, and some people have more side effects than benefits. Talk to your doctor about your symptoms and see if there is something else you can try - there are lots out there now - Lexapro, Paxil, Prozac, Cymbalta, etc. Above all else, keep your doctor informed of how you're feeling. It make take a switch or two to new meds, but they should be able to find something that will click with your chemistry. Good luck!

Wellbutrin made me nuts. Truly insane. It was not a good medicine for me. I was only tired after it kept me up for days and nights on end, though.

I took Wellbutrin a number of years ago. I took it for about a year or two until my body decided it was time to switch (it became ineffective after awhile - and yes - come to think of it - the symptom was tiredness!)
I've been taking Citalopram - a generic of something - I don't remember what the original is!
I've been taking antidepressants for over 10 years now and have had to switch occasionally. The body seems to say "Okay - enough of that, already!"Wierd!
I read some of the other responses: ditto to the taking the med at nite - helps you sleep! I find keeping a fan on creates a little "white noise" which also helps me sleep!

Hope you get it figured out. You might call the Dr and ask about things.

God bless you
A.

Ps if you're going to try a more natural route, look into taking chia seeds as a supplement. They are very high in Omega 3 oil. Research shows that Omega 3 oil is very helpful in maintaining the brain and thus, the emotions. Look up both on the internet or email me for the name of books.

Hi T.! I read your update and wanted to make sure that you know that you need to "wean" yourself and not just stop cold turkey. That will make you even more irratable and cranky. I quit cold turkey because of a pregnancy and it was very ugly. Hope this helps.
