My soon-to-be 8 year old is dying to see Iron Man, but I am hesitant to take him due to the PG-13 rating. Has anyone seen or taken their children to see this? What tye of content prompted the rating?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We saw it today and really enjoyed it. Sandy M was right - far worse things on TV. Thanks, moms for your input!

N B,
I highly recommend that you check out the website the other mom has already linked you to. I was going to do the same but saw she had done it first. The reason it is so great is it is put out there by Focus on the Family, a Christian organization run by the wonderful Dr. James Dobson. What is so great about it is you will be given every single positive and negative element of the movie, every cuss word, sex scene, violence scene, etc. Their goal is to not review the movie for whether it was "Oscar winning" but to inform parents what they can expect to see so there are no uncomfortable surprises. I use it for nearly every movie I take my nine year old daughter to. And believe me, there have been movies we've decided to skip after seeing the content on this website.

My husband took us to see it yesterday. There is one racy bedroom scene, but it is over in a flash. Of course, there was some violence and bad words. Overall, I didn't have a problem with it. My kids are 10 and 5. They absolutely loved it.

Another great website to check out the content in movies is www.dove.org I have an almost 8 yr. old son too and he wants to go and see it as well but after going to dove.org and seeing mainly the bad word content we decided not to take him until his father and I see it first. We may even choose to wait until it comes out on video. My son also wants to see the PG movie Speed Racer but it has the same language that Iron Man does. We are just going to wait one more week for Narnia to start.

My teens and I went to see it and we loved it. It's hard to think back now.

I do remember the bedroom scene... but it was pretty benign. And of course there's blood and fighting and stuff.

I would've probably taken my son when he was 8.

It was really a great movie.
