Hello, I'm forgetting how it was to feel good...Since X-mas I have been on back to back antibiotics 3x, still no relief, ear infections!! It is ruling over how I function, tired, crabby, no energy. If antibiotics can't help, is something else going on? Please help, I did make another appt. to see my doc. tomorrow.

Thanks, G.

What can I do next?

I also strongly recommend a trip to a chiropractor. Ear infections are caused by fluid not being able to drain properly which usually has a mechanical cause due to misalignment of the neck vertebrae. My DS had ear infections or fluid in his ears for 7 months before I got smart and took him to a chiro.

Also, my sister who has had a horrid sinus infection just went to an ear, nose, throat (ENT) doctor and found out that they have an antibiotic that is especially for infections that are stubborn like this. None of her other doctors even knew about it. But even if that antibiotic knocks out the infection, it will still return if you can't get the fluid draining properly.

EXCELLENT responses! The only thing I have to add is garlic and mullein oil ear drops. They work wonders. THey have cleared up ear infections for me and a bonus is that they really help with ear pain.
I hope you feel better soon!

Have you tried the chiropractor? My daughter had ear infections for several months and tried numerous antibiotics. One trip to the chiro and she hasn't had one since! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Johnson at Johnson Spinal Care in Apple Valley. www.johnsonspinalcare.com

Hi Gina,

I used to have chronic ear infections, but I don't think I ever had one that didn't respond to antibiotics.....

There are different "classes" of antibiotics. See if the ones they have been giving you are of the same "class" or different. It sounds like it's time to try a different "class", or step it up a notch.

Anytime you are on antibiotics, you risk harming the "good" bacteria in your stomach and digestive track, and women are at an increased risk for yeast infections. So eat yogurt or drink kefir with *live active cultures*. Read the labels--not all yogurt or kefir has this.

One thing that worked for me was to take a combination antihistamine/decongestant. Ear infections occur when fluid accumulates in the ear. This can happen for many reasons, but an antihistamine/decongestant will dry out the ear. If I felt an ear infection coming on, I would take some, and I could usually prevent a full-blown infection.

After you get the infection cleared up, then you need to get the *root* of why the reoccuring infections are happening. Cigarette smoke, getting water in my ears during swimming or even showering, and having my ears exposed to the cold all brought on the fluid and/or infection. So, I would say avoid smoke, use ear plugs if you swim or think you get a lot of water in them during showering, and wear a hat or ear muffs.

I second the idea of seeing a chiropractor. I would also recommend a neti pot. They are technically for the nose/sinuses, but that whole area is connected and it can't hurt.

Lastly, you need to boost your immune system. Get lots of Vitamin C and Echinacea.

Do they keep giving you the same kind of antibiotic? My youngest does not respond to amoxicillin (sp?) at all and requires a stronger antibiotic. Maybe you need to be on a different medication.
