Hi Gina,
I used to have chronic ear infections, but I don't think I ever had one that didn't respond to antibiotics.....
There are different "classes" of antibiotics. See if the ones they have been giving you are of the same "class" or different. It sounds like it's time to try a different "class", or step it up a notch.
Anytime you are on antibiotics, you risk harming the "good" bacteria in your stomach and digestive track, and women are at an increased risk for yeast infections. So eat yogurt or drink kefir with *live active cultures*. Read the labels--not all yogurt or kefir has this.
One thing that worked for me was to take a combination antihistamine/decongestant. Ear infections occur when fluid accumulates in the ear. This can happen for many reasons, but an antihistamine/decongestant will dry out the ear. If I felt an ear infection coming on, I would take some, and I could usually prevent a full-blown infection.
After you get the infection cleared up, then you need to get the *root* of why the reoccuring infections are happening. Cigarette smoke, getting water in my ears during swimming or even showering, and having my ears exposed to the cold all brought on the fluid and/or infection. So, I would say avoid smoke, use ear plugs if you swim or think you get a lot of water in them during showering, and wear a hat or ear muffs.
I second the idea of seeing a chiropractor. I would also recommend a neti pot. They are technically for the nose/sinuses, but that whole area is connected and it can't hurt.
Lastly, you need to boost your immune system. Get lots of Vitamin C and Echinacea.
