Has anyone ever sold used cd's (in great condition) to half price books? How much did you get for them; is it worth it or should you just hang onto them.

I sold 100 books to them and got $40. It seems like that would be good, but they were costly books. We took perfect condition hard back photography, fine art, designer...etc...books. It would have cost probably $600 or more to buy all those books!!!! Most people I know, don't get very much.

I sold 3 bags of books to them and got less than 10 dollars. Not worth it.

ive sold hundreds of them to half price books, that and dvds. They dont give you squat for books, records or tapes of any kind. Most c.d.s are worth at least a dollar, collections are worth more of course. Some cds are a liitel bit worth more but only if they are popular. My brother used to work for a wholsaler and he gave us many many cds, after my dad died i had hundreds on my hands to sort through. Ive enjoyed many a shopping trip, and dinner paid for by this kind of sale. Just 2 weeks ago i made 60 dollars off of a box i could carry with one arm.

my mom took a bunch of boxes of books to half price books. there were about 350 books altogether. they gave her $43 I would have kept them lol. She took a bunch of vhs tapes of disney and veggie tale types they offered her 25cents each for those not sure about cd's and i think dvd's she would have gotten more.

I used to work at FYE and they usually would give you a third of what they then would sell the price that they would sell it at. So unless you have a TON it's not really worth it. Unless you just want to get rid of things then hey, money is money.

Well, my husband works at a store that buys used books. movies, games and cd's. It's not something to do as a living, unless you can find good deals at a garage sell. things have to be in decent condition- you have to have the cover art for cd's- although the case can be cracked usually(they will put it in another case). It really depends on what you have and what is in more demand. If you have a bunch of classical- you might not get too much for it, but if it is something that is more of pop culture now- you will get a little more for it. Remember- they aren't trying to rip you off- they are running a business and have to make a profit and pay expenses.
Usually you can choose between cash(you will get less) or a store gift card(you will get more)- at least that is how it works at my husbands place.
If you are done with them and aren't going to be using them again, I would go ahead and do it- you can pick up something else that you will listen to with what you get. But, unless you are willing to invest time and money, don't do this expecting a lot of cash.

we tried that one time, needing some extra cash. we had two (paper) grocery bags full and another good sized box - movies and books both, and they offered us like $15. that might be a little off it was a few years ago - but i know it wasn't even worth our time of sorting them and gas to drive them over there.

If you are interested in making some good money, that probably won't happen. People look for low prices at any "bargain" store, and the stores must make a profit to stay in business - so you're not going to make much money.

If you just think it's time to pass these CDs on to other people and de-clutter your house, then go ahead! When I'm in Texas I always try to visit Half Price Books, and I may love what you're tired of!

You just have to realize that there isn't THAT much of a demand for used cd's. HPB can't sell them very fast or for very much. I actually don't know anyone with a cd player anymore. Everything is on the phone or iPod or mp3 player.
If you want to know what the demand of used cd's is, go on Amazon and see what they are worth in used condition. You might make more money that way.
