If so, is there an adoption agency that you could recommend--here in Pittsburgh or elsewhere in the US? We would like to specifically adopt from Latin America since my hubby is hispanic and we are familiar with the culture, language etc. Any info that you can share about your experience or agency recommendations would be sincerely appreciated. Much thanks.

What can I do next?

We adopted from Guatemala through Commonwealth Adoptions International, which has an office in Cranberry Township: <www.commonwealthadoption.org>. However, at present it is no longer possible for US citizens to begin an adoption from Guatemala due to the Hague Convention. This might change in the next year or so, but in the meantime, Commonwealth also has a Colombian adoption program. There are currently no Latin American countries with an international adoption program on the scale that Guatemala's was, but I believe that a few countries such as Colombia are still doing them on a smaller scale.

Contact Three Rivers Adoption Council at ###-###-#### or www.3riversadopt.org. They have information on all types of adoption and referrals to agencies that do the types you are interested in. I used to work there but that was almost 10 years ago so I'm sure things have changed. Research, do your homework, and make sure your agency offers training and support for you. Best wishes in your adoption journey!

FYI - you can still adopt Hispanic children domestically. If you're interested in the agency we're using for domestic adoption, feel free to send me a private message.
