Hardwood Floor Cleaning Drives Me Nuts!

Any tips on how to keep my hardwood floors clean? I sweep with a broom and then dry Swiffer, and I can see dust and floaties within a day. My son crawls all over the place and I feel bad! Thanks for your ideas.

Hi A.!

You are not the only one with the dust problem. It will happen no matter what!
But I wouldn't use the broom, that only moves it around more. I vacuum my floores and use vinegar and water to clean them. You will feel much better knowing that your some is crawling on "healthy", toxin free floors.
The bottom line is nit to use any commercial cleaning products in our household - choose green/healthy alternaties.

I totally understand your pain! I ended up just letting her get her "germ exposure", as I was driving myself nuts. I vacuum and wash the floors once a week, and try to just remember that the same dust is on carpeted floors but no one sees it.
Good luck
P.S. thanks to the other writer for the vinegar reminder--I forgot about that! I was just using very diluted Murphy's.

I agree vaccuuming usually does a better job than a broom. But in all honesty, as much as I hate it, the only way to really get rid of everything is to mop. A combination of water, murphy's oil soap and vinegar really makes the wood sparkle.

The best purchase we ever made was buying the Shark Steam mop. Very simple to use. Uses steam to clean. No chemicals at all. Can be used on hardwood floors.

I also vacuum and swifter my hardwood floors. I have a Dyson vacuum and use the wet swifter on a regular basis.I also clean my floors with water and vinegar but haven't done that in while.
