We have McD's very very rarely, this was a special mommy son night and he picked MCDonalds. We were very late eating dinner and he was super hungry so i ordered him a Big Kid meal, I thouight i was getting. 6 nuggets, fries and milk There was a line behind me so while i glanced up at the menu board i couldn't find it listed. The cashier never said anything, THey were very busy and my order was brought to me in a bag to go even though i had ordered in, i didn't notice until we sat down that the order wasn't what i expected.
So my question is:: What do you get in a big kid meal???
just to clarify, I got the nuggest and milk, and a teeny teeny frie and apples. Did she screw up my order or is this standard now as a new health initative???? It wasn't worth it at the time to go back up and ask, but i am curious.

As a Happy meal for a 5 yo or under, I would be just fine with the sizing. To be totally honest, i think if we had come at our normal dinner time and had he not been starving it would have been ok too, BUT I was NOT aware of the changes, I couldn't find it listed on the board and the cashier didn't mention it. That is more my problem with it.
This was an occasional thing not dinner every night. But iknow for some kids it is what they eat all the time.
Thanks so much for the tip about asking for reg fries. He hates those apples too so they got thrown out.
Just an FYI- you can ask for just fries and no apples and they will give you a regular fry. My kids dont like the apples because they taste like chemicals, so I always get the regular fry at no extra charge.
they made the fries smaller and added apples. you get both. either 4 piece or 6 peice on the nuggets.
they now do a small order of fries and apples, instead of fries or apples. So it sounds like you got the right meal. Hopefully he got a toy too! Sometimes I get the Mighty Kids meal for myself so I can have a toy. :-)
We went thru this week also, and got the same surprise. I think they have changed them. If I had to guess, it would be so that all the McD's can be exactly the same (isn't that one of their selling points--that you always know what to expect or something?)... anyway... Just saw the California is or just did implement a new law that restaurants can't give kids toys with their meal unless the meal meets some sort of health or dietary "standard". I'd bet anything it has something to do with that.
We go about every other week thru McD's drive thru. My 13 yr old took a picture of the new fry box (from his sister's meal) with his ipod and posted it on his FB MOCKING the size of the new "mini" fries... LOL
Sounds like you got the right meal. Happy meals don't come with a full sized fries anymore (and really they shouldn't... they're for kids), but also, they now come with a half order of fries AND apples instead of choosing between fries and apples.

I do think this is the new norm...and is apart of their "health initiative".
There are Happy Meals and Mighty Kid Meals. The Happy Meals come with a mini-sized fry and apple slices. I like it because one of my kids loves fries and I don't want him to fill up on them. The Mighty Kid Meals looks like it comes with a small sized fry and 6 nuggets instead of 4.
Maybe you got a Happy Meal instead of a Mighty Kids meal?
My nephew hates the apples as well and gives them to my little guy, almost 3, and the teeny fries are fine as I don't like him eating too many fries. We go a couple of times a month and I stopped buying Happy Meals as I found out only a penny, 1 cent, out of the price goes to Ronald McDonald house, so now buy the "Mini Meals" that don't have the toy but more food for the price.
as far as I know, Mc D's doesn't have a "big" kids meal. I think they only have them that come with the nuggets (or burger), tiny fries, apples and a drink now.
Mighty kids meals should include 6 nuggets, regular small french fries(not the mini size), apple slices, and a regular small drink if you get soda(not the mini one that comes with the regular happy meal). So, yes they screwed up and gave you the wrong size french fries.
I would say it depends on how much your kid wants that is not overdoing it. How many nuggets did you get if not 6? .
Honestly, all of McDonald's food/fast food creeps me out. I already had an issue with it then I started seeing those vids of people who claimed to have had their burger for 5 years and all that and the burger wasn't even rotted away... Gross!

Big kids meals are the 6 nuggets or a double chz burger. Then the fries and apples. The drink is the bigger size if you get a soft drink, not the tiny one that is usually with the regular happy meal.
I usually add the $1 parfait. The kids love them and if they don't eat them I like them, although I often throw out the frozen strawberries if I am not in the mood to eat the big chunks. Our kids hardly like fries and would love it if they could do the parfaits instead but the parfaits cost almost double the fries.
