Happy 4th of July everyone! What a beautiful day we have here in the greater Seattle area!

What is everyone doing today? I'm headed to a party late this afternoon, and will watch fireworks tonight.

Happy 4th!

What can I do next?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!!

My dad is here and we are doing fireworks in our cul-de-sac!

My nephew made us dinner - it was YUMMY!! We had lemon-alfredo chicken over penne pasta! We usually BBQ - but he wanted to fix dinner for us and I LOVED not having to do anything!!

I pray we will be an Independent Nation for years to come...

We spent Thursday and Friday touring Gettysburg, PA - going through the battlefield and wondering if we, ourselves, could do what those soldiers did...it was a beautiful trip!

Basically nothing. lol We got back Friday night from our 5 day cruise so we didn't have anything planned. My kids are at their dads. My husband and I went this afternoon after lunch and saw the new Terminator movie. Right now I have some dinner in the oven and we are watching a Lifetime movie I had taped. You can see some fireworks from our front yard so we will probably just do that. lol

Happy 4th to you and MMP members!!

In Allen, we do a Celebration on the last Saturday of June. This past Sat was the 20th anniversary! The crowds were around 88,500 per the latest reports. Hubby and I have volunteered through his lodge to work in the Kid Zone for the last 5 years or so. It is a lot of fun and I see SO many children having fun!

Today we will go to the golf club later. The driving range closes at 3 and people show up around that time to stake out their spot for the fireworks on the driving range. In the time building up to the fireworks, there is music, food, games and the highlight is the helicopter ball drop. Anyone who chooses can purchase 1 or more golf balls and the helicopter does a drop on the green. The ball closest to the hole wins about $10,000! It is fun! At the same time, there is usually a silent auction going on to benefit the children in the area which raises quite a lot of money and again is fun to do!

The night is topped off with fireworks. We are on one end of the driving range and fireworks are on the other. You lay down to see them perfectly and you can feel the boom when it happens. Really cool.

Hopefully everyone will have a safe and enjoyable evening!

Many people missed fireworks (had them last night) when they decided to do them an hour earlier than scheduled due to heavier rain heading toward the area.
We'll probably watch Independence Day on dvd.
We've got standing water in the yard with more rain coming today and tonight.

Or town did fireworks on the second. We are not far from Smith Mountain Lake, so I guess they do not want to compete.

We are grilling out, and weather permitting, a few 'home' fireworks.

Happy 4th to all who celebrate!

Our neighbors always have a huge party with a BBQ, pool for the kids, and everyone bringing a dish. A bunch of the kids always put on a talent show (dance or gymnastics routines set to whatever the popular tunes are). I love that they do this. The kids who don't perform always help with sound, props, making a "curtain" out of a bed sheet and clothesline, etc. I think it's a lost art sometimes.

We have fireworks in neighboring towns but skip it if people set them off in the neighborhood, since we need to stay home with our dog, who gets hysterical. (Just read a post from the local shelters that July 4th weekend is the time when more pets run away than any other time of the year - I didn't know that but it makes sense. We need to think about how our animals may be terrorized. I also read that fireworks are very disturbing to a lot of combat veterans - I've seen signs posted in yards asking people not to set off explosives. They're illegal in Massachusetts but people go across the border to NH and buy them, so there are plenty around.)

There are always good movies on that we don't mind watching a million times over, from "Yankee Doodle Dandy" to "Independence Day." We live outside of Boston, so we can watch the Boston Pops on TV playing patriotic songs and the "1812 Overture" complete with fireworks over the Charles River. Independence Day is a pretty big deal here where the Revolution began, but there are the added concerns after the Boston Marathon bombing (not far from the fireworks and concert location) so there is so much security around crowds now.

Hope everyone has a great holiday. I'm especially thinking of all those experiencing extreme weather in various parts of the country - droughts, floods, tornados - who might be having a very hard time celebrating.

I know the weekend's over, but wanted to share that we took our 3 year old around the neighborhood to see the fireworks and she loved it. She said, "wow, so many colors! I love all the colors!" and "I'm so happy" because she loved it so much. We also did a BBQ at our house with one other family.

Hope you had a good one.

We had a laid back day, just the two of us.
Woke up and had coffee, made love.
Drank beer, barbecued, made love.
Drank more beer, ate, played guitar, made love.
Comforted terrified dogs while the neighbors shot off fireworks, made love.
