Hand Wash Only. Ugh.

I wash all that stuff in cold, with Woolite, them hang to dry. Even sweaters. I never hand wash a thing!

I put my hand wash only items in a garment bag, toss them in the wash on the delicate cycle, cross my fingers and hope for the best. So far so good! I hope you have the same success. :)

Yep, chuck them in the machine on the delicate cycle, and if they don't survive then they didn't deserve to be clothes in the first place.

I put all my hand wash clothes in the washing machine on the delicate cycle then hang it to dry. It'll be fine.

95% of the "hand wash only" clothes ( and a good percentage of the "dry clean only" clothes) can go in the washer on the "super delicate" cycle which barely agitates at all. Put it on the slowest cycle, and use a lingerie bag if there are straps, hooks or any decorations that can get caught. I use lingerie bags for bras (mostly because of the hooks) and really delicate panties, plus sweaters that have buttons or zippers. I put regular underwear and blouses just in there loose.

You can also use the "soak" cycle - think about hand washing in the sink, you don't really move the clothes around much, just let them sit there. So soak them, drain & rinse, then let them spin dry very briefly, and hang to dry.

I do all my delicates with anything else lightweight that just needs a little refreshing but doesn't have major ground in dirt & sweat. I don't wash them with the gym gear or jogging stuff, but I do put them in with dust rags, cloth napkins, a hand towel or two, etc.

I put them in on the delicate cycle.

I never hand wash anything. I throw things in the washer on the gentle cycle, and use Woolite if I have to. But when things come from Goodwill, they often have a nasty smell that only regular detergent will take out.

I think you're safe using the gentle cycle.

I usually put mine in a garment bag and wash on delicate or the handwash cycle. I'v never had any problems.

If you're getting them at Goodwill vs Neiman Marcus, seems worth the risk. Our washer has a hand wash setting so I use that with Woolite and it's fine. If yours doesn't, maybe it's worth a trip to a Laundramat that does. There are the machines out there nowadays versus our old washer didn't offer the option.

Washing by hand isn't that difficult.
Just do a few things at a time and keep chipping away at it.

How ever you wash them, you'll probably need to lay things flat to dry.

Something like this over the tub works great and folds away when not in use.

Try delicate in a garment bag with Woolite.

I've enjoyed some Goodwill finds myself and if you are worried, perhaps wash them in cold water and hang them dry.I am assuming like me, you didn't have to spend a lot of money, so if you lose a few out of this situation you are only out a couple of dollars. Gosh I love Goodwill and think of all the help we are giving by purchasing there

I use the delicate cycle on our front loader. If I had a top loading machine with an agitator, I'd put it in a netted garment bag so it didn't get wrapped around the agitator and stretched out. I'd dry on extra delicate and hang it while still damp. Only use a tiny bit of detergent and no fabric softener.

Depends on the fiber. I washed one of my ex's wool sweaters on hot and it was even too small for our oldest who was one at the time. The biggest thing is googling the fibers to see how they should be washed.

You could also get a dryer like mine that can dry clean but I think google is cheaper

Depends on why they say hand wash only.
Animal fibers (wool, angora, cashmere) shrink when they are machine washed, and there is no way to unshrink them.
Rami (untreated cotton) will also shrink and is often not colorfast.

I wash every thing in the machine and then hang it up to dry. I have never ruined anything that way. I have no time to wash everything by hand!
Some things I throw in garment bags, other things I throw straight in. Depends on what it is. My bras go in garment bags, things with a lot of "bling" will go in a bag so nothing snags and anything on the smaller side like gloves or hats go in the garment bags.
Some machines have a special hand wash cycle or a gentle cycle you could use though I just use a regular cycle as I throw it in with the regular laundry. Use just a small amount of detergent, a lot less then what is recommended which is too much anyway for your regular clothes.

My washer has a handwash setting in the delicate cycle. I wash all those clothes on that cycle. Things with hooks, zippers, etc, go in garment bags so the don't catch on other items and ruin them.

Lol, SwimSally! Yeah, put them in the wash on delicate. Air dry them flat or hanging. I usually use the care instructions as suggestions, not unbreakable law.

I think I read somewhere that clothing manufacturers can put only ONE method of cleaning on their tags, so they opt for the safest one (often hand wash only or dry clean only). But that doesn't necessarily mean you CAN'T clean them in other ways. Could've sworn I read that somewhere...

i always wash my 'hand wash' stuff in the machine, with gentle detergent, cold water and the delicate cycle. works just fine.

Oh I hear you! I buy a lot of work clothes on-line through my favorite store when things are deeply discounted and the hand-wash-only fate often comes with those purchases.

Honestly, I just wear them very gently and air them out between wearings for a few wearings before bothering to wash. As long as they aren't visibly dirty or stinkly, it's fine. I try to do one hand wash a month in the sink, let everything dry on a rack for a day and then hang back up. If something needs to be ironed, it often doesn't get worn again because I hate that more than handwashing...
