I just found out my 10 month old daughter has this, and it is awful..blisters all over her bottom, down her legs, arms, everywhere. They gave me oitment to put on it and said it could last up to 7 days. But i was wanting some opinions on taking her swimming in a pool with chlorine. I don't think it's a good idea it might burn her up but want other opinions because she's just so hot and miserable.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow. Can't believe I didn't rethink that it IS contagious and I could infect other children. Sorry guys. And thanks for knocking some sence in me! :) Kiddy pool out back in the shade is filling up now! :)

Hi,
Don't forget you're going to have to disinfect stuff she was in contact with while she's home sick. severeal of my friend had to keep their little ones home and it spread to siblings..then when all were better she spend a few days home just disinfecting everything.

A Public pool?
As a parent, I would not appreciate you taking your child to the pool I attend. Can you just re-schedule for a week or two from now?

Please don't take her out when she has a contagious virus. I'm saying this as you may cause someone great inconvenience (or more serious result) if they have to stay home with a child or get it themselves and have lowered immunity for whatever reason.

I had a friend whose children got this at 5 and 6. They were SO SO miserable and couldn't figure out where they got it but it was probably from someone in public somewhere. (a sneeze, a doornob, something like that)

How about cool washclothes, fans, kiddy pools, teething rings, frozen washclothes to suck on sprinklers etc. to cool off.

You are making me rethink our Family membership to the public pool......

Miserable thing to have -- my daughter had it and I caught it from her -- just a few blisters for me, but a hard experience for her! I wouldn't take her to a public pool or anywhere else she could spread the virus -- even though the water is chlorinated, she'll be in contact with changing tables, chairs, etc., and it spreads pretty easily. What about just playing in a cool tub or kiddy pool in the yard?

ETA: 1growingupfast made me remember when I got fifth's disease -- my kids didn't have it, couldn't figure out where or why I got it, and getting it as an adult leaves you arthritic for months and causes more potentially permanent complications!

When I've seen hand foot and mouth, the blisters were on the hands, feet and in the mouth and no where else but then we had a very mild case.
I guess the dr's know what they are doing but the first thing I thought of was chicken pox (but they are much more itchy).
A tepid bath might be alright but I wouldn't be taking a sick baby into a pool.
When our son was that age, I'd take a small washtub out on a shady spot on the deck and he'd splash while I sat next to him on a towel.

My ds had that a couple months ago and it was horrible! I hope your daughter feels better soon, poor thing...It's such a nasty little virus. Oh, and don't be surprised if some of her nails pop off from it! DS lost both of his big toe nails, a couple of the other toes and a few fingers also shed the nail. Did not take long for them to grow back, but apparently this recent strain of the virus has this side affect.

This virus is transmitted through the air. Please keep her indoors for the incubation period which is 5-7 days.
