So What Happened?

Wow, I wish I had something like this when my kids were small--it is so nice to shout out to the world "help" and you actually get some. I thank all of you for the wonderful recommendations for my hair, my only problem will be where to start--and this is a good problem. Thanks Again!!

Welcome to Allen. I moved form Chicago 3 years ago and had to find everything new. first - a hairdresser- definitely try Salon at Eaton Court. They are on Main just east of I-75 in a cute antique looking building. My hairdresers name is Lafon. She is great. She gives wonderful cuts and is awesome at color. She is the first and ONLY person I have been to here. The prices are definitely competitive with Dallas (around $55 for a cut)but I think she is worth it.

As far as restauratns go - you came a great time. All the restaurants at the New Watters Creek are great. My favorites are Naan (for sushi or any pan asian type food) and Brio, more casual bistro type food. Small, french bakery you should check out is Voila on McDermott just east of Alma. I also like the little Thai restaurant in that same area calle Thai Pan nothing fancy but good. There is a new restaurant on the east side of 75 on Bethany called Thai Cafe. They just opened and we are planning to give them a try. Finally - try Elke's Market for great prepared foods and a cute little eat in restaurant. They have soups, salads and sandwiches. They make their own sausages and they are awesome.

As far as shopping goes - try the outlet mall. I love it. The shops at Watters Creek are also great. This fall and spring we will have our own big mall with more shops at Stacey Rd and I-75.

When we moved here there wasn't very much interms of shopping and restaurants in Allen, now I feel like there is enough to keep me here most of the time.

Enjoy living here!

M.

Hi P.,

Welcome to Allen. Boy did you move to the right area for teens. You're getting tons of great leads on hairdressers. I have to tell you though that the Salon At Eaton Court (http://www.eatoncourt.com) has been mentioned in Elle magazine as one of the top ten salons in the country for color. They can be pricey, but I also have fine long hair and love the service I get there.
There is TONS of shopping in this area...too much to really name without knowing what you're looking for. I would definitely start with the shops behind Market Street off of Bethany. They have Vera Bradley, White House/Black Market, I think Ann Taylor...etc. (You get the idea!)
As far as teens...well there's tons for them too. The Edge Skatepark is located just north of McDermott and just east of the Library. They have a teen center which doesn't allow people out of the age bracket in and from what I hear has video games and stuff like that set up. I don't know much more than that yet since my kids are 4 and under!

Good luck and welcome again!

Hi P., I see you have several recommendations for Salon at Eaton court and I have to back that up! Jenny is still there and she and Lafon are both awesome. Rosemary is too. Actually there is not one person there that I wouldn't recommend. Also, try the pedicures. They are the best and safest you will find!

Hi P.,

Try Salon at Eaton Court off Mainstreet in Allen...ask for Jenny (if she is still there) but anyone there is fabulous! Good luck, and welcom to the big D :)

Oh, and the best thing about living here is THE shopping and restaurants! Waters Creek in Allen is awesome, and the Allen outlets off Stacy...and for some real fun, head to downtown McKinney (just north of you) for some great eats and little boutiques. Herbies Soda Shop is cute, and have the best milkshakes. Also, Eldorado Plaza: just head up 75N. and exit Eldorado go West...there is a Justice for Girls, Urban Alley, PrimaDonna, Belk, and more, and some great restaurants. Hope this helps!

Hi P.

You've gotten a lot of responses, but I had to add my 0.2 cents worth. I have used Jim Butchée for my long hair for the last 22 years. The very fact I've used him so long means I've been super pleased with him. He is a long hair specialist and has additional training to deal with long hair. He is in McKinney (about 10 minutes north of Allen); his contact information is:

Long Hair Studio
103 E. Virginia,
Suite #108
McKinney, Tx. 75069
salon line: ###-###-####

Hope you find someone you like to do your hair! I know all too well how frustrating it is to ask for a 1-2" cut and have 5" whacked off. Thankfully, Jim has NEVER cut too much!

Good luck
S.

If you are willing to go to McKinney (off Eldorado), then I would suggest Caren Mitchell at Lagniappe Hair Salon. She is excellent--several people I know go to her and she has always done a great job!
