I have never heard of that bad luck thing. I don't believe in luck anyways. I suggest cutting his hair...I have seen too many baby boys that look like girls because of long hair.
I was always told that it is bad luck to cut your baby's hair before they turn one. Does anyone know what this is all about? My 8 month old has soooo much hair and we are thinking about cutting it. I like it long with the cute curls but I just wanted to hear what other mothers had to say. When it becomes a problem, we are going to cut it no matter what "tradition" says. Lukily, its not a problem yet (like in his eyes) Thanks in advance!

That is a crazy old wives tale. Ignore it and cut his hair if it needs cutting. And enjoy that little guy!!!
do you want him to look like a boy or girl? I cut both of my boys hair on their first birthday but I wanted them to look like boys so if you want to cut his hair just do it cause men have the best hair most of the time and I think it is cause they cut it all the time good luck and by the way I haven't heard the either
I've never heard that one - if you like it long, leave it long. If you like it short, cut it.
My son is half Indian and the Indian tradition is that you take the child to the father's parents' house on their first birthday and then the barber will shave the child's head. Like I was going to let that happen! I did end up waiting until after a my son was a year old, but that was only to coincide with traveling to India again so that my son's father could be with him for that first haircut. We definitely didn't shave his head, we only trimmed it, and we had to wait until he was asleep to even get that done! My son has curls and I was worried he was going to lose them, but the curls have grown back as cute as ever! Don't worry about tradition and cut his hair whenever you want to!
I have never heard that either. I do know that we brought our son home from Guatemala when he was 8 months old. We got his haircut the day after we brought him home. It was so long and in his eyes...drove me crazy. And I would almost bet our ten year old son had his cut before his first year too...he was born with a head full of hair. They both get it cut about once a month still.
Hi, A. - I had never heard of that superstition until my baby boy needed his first haircut and my mother-in-law told me I was supposed to wait until he was 1. It was no big deal to me, so I waited, but I did trim the front so that it was not in his eyes. Enjoy your son's curls while they are still there - after my son's first haircut, they were gone for good!
Oh wow.....I hope its not bad luck! We had to cut baby boy's hair FOUR TIMES before his 1st birthday. When he was born, it was in his eyes!
Don't sweat superstitions and old wives' tales.
If its needed, cut the hair.

Sooo many funny little wives tales ... you'll have to laught about many. He'll be fine. Cut those pretty curls whenever you want and take before and after pictures. Be certain to save one or two curls for the baby book.
I dont believe that I cut my sons hair before a year and they are fine. K.
I have never heard that it was bad luck. I had a friend who has a son that got his hair cut before he turned one because it was so long, and a little boy at my daughter's day care who is 9 molnths old just got his hair cut. I say if his hair is long enough that it bothers you all as parents or is getting in his eyes. Cut it, you dont want that baby to be miserable because his hair is in his eyes. Just because some people say it is bad luck. Good Luck with the decision just remember you are the mother and you know if its time to cut some hair no matter what others say
I first cut my daughter's hair around 5 months. I don't care what anyone says, it's bad luck to let your little girl have a mullet! My son went for his first cut about a month ago (he is 7 months now)-the Flock of Seagulls look is hopelessly passe. No bad ju ju here, just common sense and an eye towards practicality and aesthetics. Do what you feel is best, you'll know when it's time.
I never knew it was bad luck to cut a childs hair before they turn 1....I just never did it...lol My oldest was 2 before I gt up the courage to cut his hair, but it was so curly we didn't have to worry about it getting in his eyes. My youngest is 14 months and hasn't had his first haircut yet, but is getting close, cause his hair isn't curly and its starting to get long. I just decided I was going to wait until they were more likely to set still so there is less of a chance of say, losing an ear...lol
Well, if you are really worried- you only have 4 more months to go til his 1st birthday! But, I have never heard of that old wives tale. I would trim it a little if he looks a mess. I agree with others- boys should look like boys. You gotta do it sometime. Might as well do it if he needs it. He'll be adorable!
Hi, A.,
Our daughter's hair gets into her eyes sometimes, but it's generally not a problem. I don't even often reach for her hair band because I can just brush her hair to the side.

I've never heard that one before. I've had a few friends who have cut their babies hair. My daughter had one area that was MUCH longer than the rest so we trimmed that a few times the whole first year. I think it's totally up to you!
