My pediatrician advised me to use mineral oil and comb with an infant comb beofre washing. It worked for me! Good luck!
I have a 8 month old with moderate "cradle cap". Does anyone have a solution to this?
Hi girls! I just wanted to thank everyone with their advice. I took a some of your advice and ended up using olive oil and then shampooing- using my fingertips to really get at the scalp. Well it's be about three days and it's almost gone! Thanks everyone!

A., rub the baby's head with baby oil then use a baby comb to comb through the baby's hair. You may have to do this a few times washing the hair in between. This did the job for my daughter when she was a baby.

Hi, my daughter didn't have cradle cap although she did have a mild case of eczema on her face. I used Cetaphil products and they seem to work well for her. My friend's son had cradle cap and was told that it would disappear in time but it looked horrible and so she tried a bunch of shampoo and treatments but nothing really worked. Finally, I found a shampoo treatment made by Mustela and bought that for her. It worked.
My daughter also had a mild case of it. During her bath, when i was washing her hair(johnson's baby shampoo) I would get it all soapy, then take that really soft brush they give you in the hospital, or the little itty bitty comb, and go through her hair while it was still soapy. And i would comb the soap through her hair(she had a lot). Then i rinse, and just gently comb the skin off. That sounds yucky, and harsh but i was not brushing hard, the soap(and sometimes i used baby oil first) gets everything really soft and it does help. After im done in the bath i comb as usual...and more of the flakes came off. It took a few times, but it was kind of like ex-foliation for her scalp...I hope this helps :)

Hi A.,
I want to recommend Arbonne's baby care line to you. There are awesome before and after pictures available on our website that show how effecctive the baby care line can be.
Arbonne's baby oil actually does not contain mineral oil which is just a cheap filler (think Johnson & Johnson's) - all our products are made from essential oils, are botanically based & safe, pure, & gentle - so no worries with irritation or getting in your baby's eye.
I would love to send you a sample pack if you are interested in trying it please shoot me an email & check out my website for more info or to order:

A.,
I've found that almond oil with a few drops of essenial oil of lavender rubbed onto the scalp usually clears it up.
L.
I'm a massage therapist and teach infant massage classes so see lots of this. Good luck!
Hi A.,
My pediatrican told me to use Selon Blue. I really wasn't comfortable at first, but the oil just wasn't cutting it. You only need to use a dime size amount, 3 times a week. I was just afraid of getting it in my sons eyes, but I just say "up up up" and he leans his head back. You can also put the shampoo in a basin of water to dilute it. It's helping, but I think I might start to alternate doing the Oil one day and then the Selon Blue the next to help move it a long.
Hi A.,
My daughter had terrible cradle cap. The Dr. (who specialized in pediatric dermatology) told us to take a very soft toothbrush and some mildly warm baby oil and put the oil on the scalp and use the toothbrush to get it off. You have to be very gentle of course, and don't use too much baby oil. It really works. I was surprised how well, I would do it when I had her in the tub and then just rinse her off.
Arbonne Baby Care Products - Natural ingredients
Arbonne International makes a great baby line that includes a Baby oil made from essential oils. Their products are pure, safe and beneficial and contains no mineral oil. My daughter had cradle cap and I used the oil and by the next day, it was cleared up and her skin was so SOFT! I am a District Manager for Arbonne so please contact me to find out more info. Good luck! Also Arbonne has a great business opportunity, I am now a stay at home Mom making an income with Arbonne! I can't imagine leaving my daughter to return to work!!
Hi A.:
When my daughter was about 7 months old, she had some mild cradle cap and my pediatrician told me to only wash her hair 2x per week (which I was doing already) and before I washed her hair, to rub some baby oil into her scalp, leave it on for 10 minutes, comb her hair to loosen the dead skin and then wash as usual in her bath. I'd say by the 3rd time I did this, it was gone!! I did it one or two more times to be sure, but it really worked and she's "cradle cap free" now! Good luck ;)
I don't necessarily have the solution, it'll eventually go away, but my daughter had it really bad and if you drench the head with baby oil and massage it in, then take that really soft hair brush you get from the hospital (when she was born) and brush/lightly scrub her head. It'll almost all come off. It'll take 3-4 washings with shampoo to get all the oil out.
My stepson had cradle cap when he was 3-1/2 - due to his mother....but I used baby oil - worked like a charm
Wash with Selson Blue. Let sit on head for a few minutes before rinsing. Ensure it doesn't get into baby's eyes. This should help.
after his bath, get some baby oil and glently massage into his scapt... then get a fine comb and again glently comb his hair... the comb will comb out the cradle cap...
its really easy... just take your time
Hi A.!
My pediatrician told me to use "Neutrogena T Gel" if my son had cradle cap. So I think you can try it. But be careful with the eyes.
Valérie B.
There is a foam shampoo by Mustela. Google Mustela Cradle cap and the name of the product should come up. It works like a charm. WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT PICK AT IT!!!!!!!
I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing the baby oil from Arbonne works for this condition!! My friends have all become hooked on these products now as well! I have become an independent consultant with them to receive 35% off their entire product line for a whole year. They use only essential oils and NO mineral oil at all, so results are immediate.
I see that some have recommended mineral oil, and I must let you know that mineral oil is actually illegal in Europe due to the fact that it is a derivitive of crude oil and may be linked to cancer. Most dont know this becausee somehow they still allow it into our products. But personally would never allow this to touch my child's skin!!
To order the ABC baby care line go to www.arbonne.com You will need to use ID#17295923. If you choose, you may create your own discount membership for only $29 for the year. Saves you 35% off all orders. Any questions contact me. J.
Hi there! This has worked for me.....massage some baby oil into your baby's scalp. Then take a small baby comb and sort of scrape at the cradle cap and the oil should have loosened it up...then the comb pulls it away. All the while -- massage more oil...I think the oil "gel" works better since it's not "runny".
Good luck!!
I used 'Mustela foam shampoo for newborns', it worked really well and one bottle lasted us almost a year (my daughter didn't have much hair at the time)! http://www.mustelausa.com/bath_time.html
My son is now 7yrs old and still gets it at times but he has eczema. I use head and shoulders and comb it often.
My 22mth old daughter had cradle cap any oils and what not seemed to make it worse so I carefully tried the head and shoulders on her and it was gone. No problems since.
Also another bonus to the head and shoulders is head lice do not like it. I have 3 girls and 1 boy none of them have got lice from school or anywhere since I started using the head and shoulders been 3yrs now thank god!!!!!!!!! The nurse at the doc suggested I use it on them cause I was mad that my 2 oldest came home with lice. I said they are clean kids and just could not understand how they got it. The nurse said lice like clean heads go figure!!!!!!!!!

When my son was about that age, he all of a sudden developed a bad case of "cradle cap". I used Mustela foam shampoo for infants and within 2 shampoos followed by a combing it was gone...never to be seen from again.
Good Luck
I found pure olive oil, right out of the cupboard, to be the most organic and effective solution. It literally dissolved it. My son's cradle cap wasn't severe so I don't know how it would work on worse cases, but it sounds like your child's isn't that bad. I didn't even worry about it until he was a year old or so, then it seemed like a good idea to get rid of it. good luck!
Arbonne makes an all natural baby line called ABC, and one of the 5 products for baby is a baby oil (DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY MINERAL OIL- totally vegan company) this works amazing on the cradle cap.
I will be happy to provide you with a sample or you can pick up a sample at the pediatrician in Tribeca, Dr. Porges on N.Moore Street.
for more info.
I have three children and they all had cradle cap, nightmare. With my first I was told to try Selson Blue, but one drop near the eyes and it's all over, terribly painful. You have to be really careful. By the second child, I had discovered Burt's Bees apricot baby oil. Actually any baby/vegetable oil will work, this stuff just smells really good. I put it on a couple of hours before the tub and then while they are in the tub I comb with a fine tooth baby comb and then shampoo. Works like a charm!
Hi A.
I had great success with sweet almond oil when my son had cradle cap. I just rubbed the oil onto his head and when I gave him a bath that night a lot of the cradle cap came off. Repeating the treatment made the problem go away fairly rapidly. Good luck!
A.

Hi A.,
Arbonne's Baby Wash (body and hair) and their Oil worked wonders on my 5 month old!! I put the oil in and combed his hair while in the tub then washed his head. It took a few times but his cradle cap is all gone!

Don't be afraid to give it a good scrub with a wash cloth and rinse well. Both of my boys got it when I had too light a touch.
hi, my daughter didn't really get it until she was about 10 months...and i would just sit there and "scratch" her head and let the cradle cap flake off (but only because she had SO MUCH HAIR!)...also when she would get her baths i would use my nails (gently)to scrub it off. but friends told me that for their sons, they had put baby oil (sometimes just the baby shampoo during bath time) and used the baby brush and just rub it around on their scalp to get it off. i guess it all depends on how much hair your child has, and how much mess you're willing to deal with (i couldn't bare the thought of oil throughout my daughter's abundance of hair lol).
Hi A.,
Dab a little Calendula oil or Olive Oil on your baby's head. It works like a charm. I also put lotion on my son's head after his bath. It does not harm his hair and keeps the cradle cap away. I hope this is helpful.
A.,
I am a fellow mom with 2 young boys of my own, and used to cringe whenever I heard 'cradle cap'. I tried everything under the sun to get rid of it including advice from doctors and nothing seemed to work.
I have now found the solution to not only cradle cap, but also eczema and all general baby needs.
Arbonne Baby Care!
I believed in it so much - that I am now an Independent Consultant with Arbonne, making a great living being my own boss. I left corporate america and I would not have done it if I did not believe in our products this strongly!
If you do any research on the products on the market for kids, you will get as scared as I have become. I now only use ABC on my own kids, and only Arbonne products on the rest of the family.
Arbonne products are all pure, safe and beneficial.

Before bath time, soak baby oil or mineral oil onto the areas. Don't be afraid to use a little pressure - use fingertips or fingernails after it has been on for a while, and don't be surprised if hair comes with it too. Also follow up with a fine toothed comb and pull it off. After the majority of it is removed, look for something in the drugstore that is like the old "buf-puf" pad that was used.. that can be used gently on the head if the cradle cap is mild.
Hi A.. Rub some baby oil on his scalp then use a fine tooth comb and comb through the hair and the cradle cap should go away.
A.,
Try rubbing a little baby oil(or Olive oil)into his/her hair about ten minutes before washing his/her hair. Make sure it is worked into the scalp. This should be done every day for 3-4 days. You should see results by then.
Good Luck,
C. Thomson
Rub in some olive oil and use a fine tooth comb to scrape it off. The wash the oil out.
Hiya A.,
I'm a pediatirc nurse, mother to an 11 & 7 year old. When my youngest was an infant I thought he had craddle cap, which should be treated with a little baby oil, take a cotton ball dab the baby oil on the areas. This should soften it enough to loosen it up. If this doesn't work check with the pediatrician it may be eczema, which may need a mild cortisone cream. My youngest son had this. If it keeps getting worse it may be eczema.
Use a little baby oil
Try rubbing baby oil on your baby's head and let it sit for a while. Then comb through it and the dead skin will lift off.
Hi,
I heard that Aquaphore works. My son never had cradle cap but when he had skin irritations I dabbed a bit of breast milk on his skin and it would clear up pretty quickly. Good luck.
Hi A.,
our pedi told us to use Selson Blue - and be sure to 'scrape' the loose skin off the head when washing - sounds gross, but it works!

I love Gentle Naturals cradle cap solution....you can find it at Walmart and most other drug stores.
when my son had mild cradle cap I put vegetable oil in his hair and let it sit for a few minutes and then used baby comb to comb out all of the cradle cap. It was not the most fun thing to do ( a little bit yucky) but it wasn't particularly messy, he didn't really mind, and it worked.
Good luck.

Hi,
My Dr. suggested rubbing mineral oil on the scalp and then combing it through to remove the flakes. Good Luck.
Use head and shoulders, just make sure to get none in the baby's eyes. That's what I used with my sons and it cleared it up pretty quick.
Hi A.,
What I always did was put a little baby oil on my boys(I have 4) head then take a baby comb (it was always the one from the hospital...very small teeth) and just scrape it off very gentle.
Then I would wash his hair. All of it would not come off the first time but after a few times (may be over a couple of weeks and not everyday) it would come off.
Also I can send you Arbonne baby samples if you would like to use our body oil instead of baby oil...and we also have a baby wash that will not leave build up....At the time I had never heard of Arbonne so I didn't know that I could have been using better quality products.
Hope this tip is helpful...C. http://cathydepaola.myarbonne.com
Hi A.
My daugher had that when she was a few months old and I found this great stuff at "the Health Shoppe" in Morristown thatis completely all natural - herbal oil that treats it. I used it a few times and it went away! I forget the name of it but GNC or vitamin shoppe may carry. I regret I don't recall the name but it came in a very small bottle - some kind of oil.
Good luck! C.
well when my son had his doctor suggested using mineral oil. It worked very well. What u do is apply it right before you wash the hair and take a baies comb or brush with a socking and it will come up little by little. and apply mineral oil before you go out or during the day just about once, it helps keep the scalp moist. do this for about five days.
Hi A.: I have heard that baby oil helps to remove it and keep the scalp moisturized. Hope it helps, M. P.
I had the same problem and asked the doctor about it and the doctor told me to leave it alone because it doesn't hurt them and you don't want to do so by scraping on it, or putting on oils that are going to be absorbed by the skin. My son is 11 months now and most of it is gone, but in reality every time we wash his hair we ran a comb through to get as much of the loose ones as we could. I hope this helps.
i have a 5 1/2 year old son, and if i use anything but gerber baby washwith oatmeal on his hair he gets a bit of cradle cap, i would suggest that, it's real gentle and smell so clean
A.,
Just use Johnson's baby oil, put a little on your hand and rub it on your baby's head. This worked for me, Aidan is now "cradle cap" free! Good Luck.
I am a consultant with a company called Arbonne. They have a botanically based baby care line which is absolutely amazing for cradle cap and many other skin issues. check it out at www.arbonne.com
