I have seen people use a flat iron on braids after they're in.
Might give it some extra hold?
Otherwise, I'd go with a light (maybe spray) gel.
My daughter and I both have long straight hair. Sometimes she likes me to "curl" her hair with those foam rollers and she sleeps in them. Sometimes I braid her hair before bed so she has "kinky" pig tails the next day. My question is, what type of product should I be putting on her hair while I do this? Gel? I haven't used styling products in forever and really don't know what to buy. I don't want her hair to be sticky or hard, but if I use nothing the curls just fall out so quick! And when I pull the curlers out the next morning, should I "set" it with hairspray? Recommendations on brands would be helpful too!!!
Thank you!

Hairspray is good, mousse may help. When you do the braid for "kinky" pig tails - take your flat iron on med/low heat, spray with got 2b heat protectant and just do some quick squeezes/crimps on them really quickly. If doing it just before bed time is not enough time then do it just after dinner or before dinner when the family is going to be home for the night and not crazy active.
Hi A.-
My girls got 'my' hair as well...Very fine. Very straight!
I have a small spray bottle that I mix with water and a sport gel. I shake it up, and spray it on to keep a pony tail or pig tails in place.
When I have rolled their hair (sponge rollers & granny cap over night)...I wash hair...and let it dry to 'damp'. Then I section off some...spritz with my gel/water combo...and roll it up. I style in AM...and then lightly spray with hair spray!
Best luck!

I would do a mouse in her hair before braiding I would use hair spray. Would do maybe gel or mouse before the curlers too I know Paul mitchel is real good bed head and suave. But suave mouse is a little sticker the rest are lighter except bed head not sure. But I wouldn't use any but mouse. That should do what u an n if not try the gel.
Try a mousse when hair is wet before braids or curls. Set it with a spray gel, and scrunch.
Trick from my past hair-gal for my grand w/fine hair...
Presuming since you are using sponge rollers, you are rolling it still damp? Ok - then spritz/spray each section of hair with a good hold spray (freeze it or hold ...to hold well) then quickly roll up. Repeat all the way around and just let her sleep on it! When you take them out the next morning, the curl should be a bit better with the help of the spray, but you may want to give it a once-over depending on how her hair does.
(my little one loves the kinky hair, too)
