My 14year old daughter is very self concious of her legs so bad that she wont wear dresses or shorts. She has very thick hair follicles and no matter if she shaves daily it still looks like she hasn't. We have tried the Nair spray, cremes, wax.. and none really work. i know it can be pricey getting them professionally waxed. Anyone suggest a hair removal system that my 14yr old daughter can use safely? I have seen the electric shavers that pull from the root but have not experienced it before..

What can I do next?

Waxing over time can help to thin the hair and it won't be as noticable. You could always just have her get waxed below the knee to save money, since that is most likely where most of the hair is, and she can shave above that.

Laser removal can be permanent, but it usually take several times.

I would honestly look at laser hair removal. I have a friend that was by her own description "very hairy". She likewise had very dark hair and large hair folicles and she had her arms and legs done because she was so self conscious. Now she has also done her bikini line and some facial hair (upper lip and chin). In the end, it winds up being cheaper than living through your life self conscious of your body hair. Good luck!

I am an esthetician, and I used to work in a laser spa before I had my son. The lasers we used were the best at hair removal...the GentleLase and GentleYag, they are Candela machines. Do not fall for IPL it does not do the job. It can get pricey but it is worth it in the long run if it would make her feel better. Just make sure you go somewhere reputible. Other than that waxing is the next best thing. Over time the growth will slow. Nothing on this earth will "change" the size of her hair follicle. You get what you get. Its kinda like pores they dont "get smaller" you can make them appear smaller thats all. I hope it helps!!

Shaving, waxing, yanking, all those techniques are temporary and she'll have to do this regularly. I highly recommend laser hair removal. I LOVE it!

Hi S.,

My aunt has used the electric shaver that pulls from the root and she liked it for a little bit, but she eventually got rid of it and went back to shaving because it was more convenient and not painful. I tried it once and it really hurt and it does not seem to get every hair, it leaves a lot of hairy spots. My legs are kind of the same as your daughter, but I use gradual tanning lotion frequently after shaving, like when I know I am going to wear shorts that day, which makes it less noticeable and gives my legs a healthy glow.
