Talk to your GP to get screened for anemia and thyroid issues- both of which can cause hair loss.
Hello, my son just turned 1 and I have been losing hair since he was about 4 months old. I didn't lose any hair it seemed while I was pregnant so I knew it was going to come out. I am noticing a lot of new growth but it seems like my hairline is a lot thinner and I have always had a lot of hair. The other thing is I have had the Paraguard since November and have read some things about it causing hair loss. Has anyone experienced this? It seems like it should all be back to normal with a year old but maybe not. I just wanted to see if anyone else experienced this as late as a year later? Did your hair all come back? Its just a little scary.

Take it from a mom of 5, post-partum hair loss (and re-growth) is a normal result of hormonal fluctuation. And, as an aside, nothing ever goes completely back to normal -- welcome to the "new" normal! ;-)
Blessings to you and congrats on your little one!
I totally lost what seemed like a lot of hair after the birth of my children. And, it did seem to go on forever. I still have pictures of me and my daughter as a 7 month old, and my hair looks crazy! I know it took at least a year or two before I thought my hair looked normal again, esp. in the front. (I had little wisps of hair on the front and top of my head for a while.)

Here is the clinical document the FDA has on file for the approval to market ParaGuard, and there's no mention of hair loss in the "Adverse Event" section.

But, it doesn't mean it's not a side effect you're experiencing. The FDA only requires that adverse events occurring in more than 2% of the population be included in this document though, by law, physicians and pharmaceutical companies have to report all side effects/adverse events within 24 hours of becoming aware of them to the FDA.
I'd ask your pharmacist and OB/GYN if there could be a correlation. Because it's a hormone-based contraceptive device, it's all together possible alopecia is a reaction your body is experiencing while adjusting to the IUD, or it's possible something unrelated is happening.
Either way, call and ask your OB's office.
Be cautious with what you read about medical information on the internet. One recent study found that 40% of online health information is inaccurate. If it's not from a site that is credible (medical like WebMD, Drugs.com, MayoClinic.com, FDA.gov, ACOG.org), I'd be very cautious and try to verify.
Over the last two years, my hairline has been in a state of retreat and regrowth. I've had bloodwork done, seen a dermatologist, etc. to no avail. What has helped me is a Biotin supplement. I take 5000mg a day and that HAS helped.
My son just turned 1 yesterday and I have had bald spots since I was prego with him. If they are growing back then that is great but remember it does take time and your body (hair included) will never be the same after babies. Good Luck
I lost some hair after my son was born. I have the paragard and have not lost any hair. I have done quite well with it. It could be the hormones in your body are off balance. Make sure to not wash your hair everyday and to be careful with coloring it. I would talk to your doctor and do a blood test to see if your hormones are in balance. You could also make sure their is no type of issue with your thyroid. Good luck
