I am in the same situation as you. I hope you get some answers. It is a terrible feeling to watch clumps come out!
For the last 4 months or so my hair seems to be falling out much more than usual. No I did not just have a baby, I already went through THAT phase of hair loss too. I know I am not imagining it because I now have tons of baby hairs growing in all over my scalp that look like horrendous fly-aways no matter where I part my hair and when I am in the shower I am shedding the way I did after giving birth. About 6 months ago I stopped eating meat. When I learned that hair loss could be a sign of an iron defiency I examined my diet and found that I was getting not even half of the RDA for iron. So I started taking a iron supplement but since I did not consult my physician first I went with a lower-dose one, that has the same amount as the pre-natal vitamin I took while prego b/c I know that too much iron can cause problems too. I ended up having blood work done which included checking thyroid and iron levels. When I had the blood work done I had already been taking the iron supplement for about a month and a half. Thyroid was totally normal and with iron my tibc level was slightly high and my total serum iron is in the low- normal range (made it into normal zone by 10 points). So technically my iron is in the normal range or just bordering on low-normal with me taking the supplement. However, I am still losing hair. I can't think of why else this could be but of course I stress on it which probably makes it even worse. I already have thin hair to begin with and now it is even thinner. I don't take birth control, am not on any medication and the only things I take are Co-Q10 and I started a "Hair, Skin, Nails Vitamin when this all started. Does anyone have any other thoughts as to why this may be happening?? Or any way to stop it? Thanks!!
ETA - The blood work was done by my cardiologist, who likes to check my minerals etc because I have sometimes have svt. I asked him to add on the iron and thyroid tests. Since all of the numbers are in the "normal" range (except the tibc but it is just barely out of range) they scheduled my follow up for 3 months from now. Sp I am just trying to get some answers before then.

When you had the blood work done did you talk about all of this with your doctor?
Sounds to me like it could be hormonal or your thyroid. I'd seek out a professional that deals with this.
Did they do a full thyroid panel (T3, T4, Free T3) or did they only do a TSH test? If they did not do a full panel, ask your doctor to do it. The TSH is what most doctors do, but it is not always accurate.
