I have a almost 16 month old son who absolutely hates having his hair cut. He was born with a ton of hair and it grows so fast. I am only able to trim little pieces of his hair at a time. I have tried cutting his hair while in the bath tub or putting on cartoons but nothing seems to work. Does anyone know any tricks to cutting hair?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much everyone for the great advice! I ended up taking him to Cookie Cutters which is a kids haircut place. He sat very well and watched cartoons while they cut his hair. I will definately take him to get his hair cut for now on.

Although he may seem impossible when you try to cut his hair, taking him to a barber shop or beautician may work. He may react more calmly if the person cutting his hair isn't "mommy." I know even my 11 year old son throws a fit when i try to cut his hair, but take him to a barber and he just sits there like an angel and doesn't make a peep. Just a thought.

We take our 27 month old to Great Clips and let him play with something he really enjoys- my cell phone! Before that he would throw a fit too. Good Luck!!!!

Hi A.!

I used to cut my son's hair in the bathtub, which always worked because he was always playing intently and never payed attention to me. Well, once he got older, he FREAKED out when he saw some of his hair fall into the tub. He cried and cried until he looked at himself in the mirror and saw that his head was intact. So, no more in the tub.

I then started to cut it while he would play and watch his favorite show. If he moved, I just followed him around. Sometimes it took 2 hours to get everything done and even. But at least it was done!

One day I was cutting the ends of my hair, and he instantly became interested. He pulled at his own hair and said "help". Now he loves it. He likes watching his hair fall and touching it. I go slow, and at his pace. And I never make him sit against his will. I only cut when he'd in a good mood. He also has a special chair he sits in. It always seems to me that whenever I over explain things to my son and include him in things, the more cooperative he is. So maybe if your son picks out a special hair or a special snack or a special movie, he might be more apt to sitting?

Good luck!

We did our son's while he was sleeping. But be careful to put a towel across his shoulders so the hair doesn't get on him and make him itch. One of us would hold him in our arms while the other one cut.

Give them their fav. snack. If you took him to great clips or something they would (hopefully asking you first) offer him a sucker to have him sit still. My son didn't like his hair cut either. I gave up doing it myself and had either our neighbor who does hair do it or poned the job off on his dad (the joys of being seperated lol). His dad normally took him someplace until he was old enough to have a buzz.

Try taking him in somewhere. My son used to hate having me cut his hair cut too, but when I would take him in to someone at a salon, he was always an angel.

I took my son to Cookie Cutters in West Chester, Voice of America. It is pricey BUT he sat for them. They are very kids oriented. They have them pick a seat they want to sit in and while you are waiting for your turn they have a nice play area for them. I am trying to not go but every few months so he is due for the next cut but I think it is well worth it.
